With the emergence of Internet of Things, modern control systems have to deal with the big data from the ubiquitous information sensing mobile devices, cameras, microphones, radio-frequency identification devices, wireless sensor networks, etc., which is often beyond the capacity of traditional control technologies. To deal with this issue, the rapidly developing cloud computing may provide a perfect platform for big data storage and processing, controller design, and performance optimization.Thereby, with the extension and application of the basic theory and method of cloud computing defined by software in the field of automatic control, cloud control systems have recently attracted much attention from both researchers and engineers. However, the research of cloud control systems is still in its infancy. Many fundamental issues and challenges concerning cloud based decision and control are yet to be identified and addressed, such as modeling of cloud control systems, security or privacy issues, and real-time implementations of cloud based decisions.Besides, a combination of new developments on big data, encryption, communication technologies, learning based approaches, etc., is also desirable to embody the inherent advantages of cloud control systems.Solutions to or progress in these issues is intensively pursued in this special section.
This special section aims to feature the recent developments of cloud control systems, and provide a platform for academic researchers and industrial engineers to share their new results in cloud-based decision and control. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to
● New architecture of cloud based decision and control
● Cloud control perspectives of traditional control tasks
● Modeling of cloud control systems
● Learning-based cloud control systems
● Data-driven approaches in cloud-based decision and control
● Security of cloud-based decision and control
● Encryption/privacy in cloud-based decision and control
● Experimental study of cloud-based decision and control
