At the eleventh hour是什么意思？

這個短語的字面意思是“第11小時”。它來自《圣經(jīng)·新約·馬太福音》中耶穌對門徒講的一則寓言。Eleventh hour既不是指上午11點，也不是指夜晚11點，而是相當(dāng)于日落前的下午5點，即白天12小時工作日的“第11小時”。后來被喻指“最后時刻”。因此，at the eleventh hour現(xiàn)在用來表示“在最后時刻”，有時還引申為“在緊要關(guān)頭”，而eleventh-hour decision則指“在最后一刻作出的決定”。
