Thanksgiving Day， a holiday on the fourth Thursday of November， has been an annual holiday in the United States since the 1863. Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick， the aged， and children who have lost their parents， but also friends and neighbors whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.

About 60 years ago， when a Cleveland man noticed that some people， such as children who lost their parents and patients who lay in bed， too often felt forgotten and neglected， he tried to show them that they were remembered by giving them small gifts on a Saturday in October. Soon the idea spread to other cities all over the USA and now is celebrated every year.

The Mid-autumn Festival， an important traditional Chinese festival， falls on August the fifteenth day of the lunar calendar. It is celebrated in China and other Asian countries because the Asian people believe that the moon is the symbol of union and happiness. On that day， the family go back home to have a family reunion， enjoying a great feast and chatting happily. After the dinner， people eat moon cakes， which are round cakes with meat， eggs， nuts and other things inside， after which they go out to admire the full moon， hoping to be blessed with luck.
