When I met and married（嫁給）a kind Japanese man， I thought he would learn a bit more English and we would live in the US. But we ended up living in Tokyo！ I needed to learn Japanese and fast！ You know， if you can’t speak the language， living in a foreign country can be very lonely.

When we moved back to the US later， I planned to keep teaching English as before. I took a job at a store that had a children’s playroom. However， this store had workers from many other countries. Oftentimes， a preschooler（學(xué)齡前兒童）in my playroom could not speak a word of English and would look so lost and lonely！ My heart flew to them. We would play language games and they would teach their language to me.

Years later， a small girl from South America had become fluent（流利的）in English. She said to me， “Teacher， remember when I called you Maestra（老師，西班牙語(yǔ)）？ At that time you showed me the most love.” Hearing these words， I was moved to tears.

There was another child. He spoke Russian at first. We built a robot from blocks（積木）and fed it “food”. He liked the game very much and learned English words quickly by playing. I’m so happy to help him fit into his new life in the US.

These moments have become my direction（方向）in life. Though everyone is different， love always matters！
