Xi'an Aerospace City No.1 High School is located in Xi’an Aerospace Base. It is a nine-year public school designed to meet the teaching and corresponding functional needs of about 3000 students in 66 classes. Faced with the problems of tight land use and serious shortage of school space environment, the design adopts a spatial intensive model. The functional spaces of the campus plan are intensively combined and superimposed with the three-dimensional space to meet the requirements of efficient land use and standardised configuration of functional rooms, while at the same time creating sufficient space to make campus activities multipurpose. The design is based on the concept of "Enclosure" and "Harmony", drawing on the wisdom of the layout of traditional residential courtyards, and pursuing the aesthetic ideal of harmony. Simple shapes and unified volumes are used to create a sense of harmony. The ideology of centrality, directionality pursued by the design is concretised through the combination of squares, resulting in a multi-level interactive public space and a shared teaching space.
