Beauty is as summer？鄄fruits，which are easy to corrupt，and cannot last；and，for the most part， it makes a dissolute youth，and，an age a little out of countenance；but yet certainly again，if it light well，it maketh virtues shine，and vices blush.

弗郎西斯·培根（1561—1626）：17世紀(jì)英國(guó)著名的思想家、政治家和經(jīng)驗(yàn)主義哲學(xué)家，同時(shí)又是實(shí)驗(yàn)科學(xué)的先驅(qū)者。以上兩段話均出自培根的散文《談美》（Of Beauty）。該文是培根少有的論藝術(shù)之作，主旨在將美與品德結(jié)合起來。
