On July 12, the opening ceremony of the Myanmar Consulate-General in Chongqing was held. Dan Yanzheng, Vice Mayor of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, Wei Xiaodong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and U Myo Thant Pe, Myanmar Ambassador to China attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Consular officials of the Consulates General in Chongqing and Chengdu, as well as representatives from departments, districts, and universities, attended the event, including those of the Myanmar Consulate General in Chongqing, the Foreign Affairs Office(FAO)of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, the FAO of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development,Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, Port and Logistics Offi e of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government,Chongqing Connectivity Initiative Bureau (CCIB), Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administration, Chongqing Federation of Industry and Commerce, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chongqing Committee, Yuzhong District, Bishan District,Ba’nan District, Chongqing University, Southwest University, Southwest University of Political Science & Law, and Sichuan International Studies University.

Ambassador U Myo Thant Pe said that the opening of the Myanmar Consulate General in Chongqing was an auspicious occasion and a remarkable milestone in the history of the bilateral relations between Myanmar and China. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 72 years ago, both have enjoyed the longstanding “Pauk Phaw” Friendship with remarkable progress and multi-faceted cooperation in all sectors. Based on mutual understanding and good neighborliness, Myanmar-China cooperation would continue to flourish. He pointed out Chongqin ’s prominent geographic location, having a solid foundation for cooperation with Myanmar in a wide range of fields with strong momentum. The establishment of the Myanmar Consulate General in Chongqing would definitely promote friendly exchanges and cooperation to a new level,not only between Myanmar and Chongqing but also between Myanmar and China.

7月12日，緬甸駐重慶總領(lǐng)事館開館儀式在渝舉行，重慶市政府副市長但彥錚、中國外交部領(lǐng)事司副司長魏曉東、緬甸駐華大使苗丹佩出席開館儀式并致辭。

緬甸駐重慶總領(lǐng)事館，重慶市政府外辦、湖北省委外辦和重慶市文化旅游委、市教委、市商務(wù)委、市政府口岸物流辦、市中新項(xiàng)目管理局、兩江新區(qū)管委會(huì)、市工商聯(lián)、市貿(mào)促會(huì)，渝中區(qū)、璧山區(qū)、巴南區(qū)、重慶大學(xué)、西南大學(xué)、西南政法大學(xué)、四川外國語大學(xué)等單位代表，以及各國駐渝蓉領(lǐng)事官員出席活動(dòng)。

苗丹佩大使在致辭中表示，緬甸駐重慶總領(lǐng)事館的開館是一件大事、喜事，在緬中雙方關(guān)系歷史上具有里程碑意義。他說，自緬中建交72年以來，世代胞波情誼持續(xù)深化，雙邊關(guān)系取得長足發(fā)展，各領(lǐng)域合作碩果累累。在彼此的相互理解和睦鄰友好的基礎(chǔ)上，緬中友好合作將不斷發(fā)展、再創(chuàng)輝煌。他指出，重慶地理位置優(yōu)越，與緬甸合作基礎(chǔ)良好、合作范圍廣泛、合作勢(shì)頭強(qiáng)勁，緬甸駐重慶總領(lǐng)事館的設(shè)立定將促進(jìn)緬甸與重慶、緬甸與中國的友好交流合作再上新臺(tái)階。

魏曉東副司長在致辭中代表中國外交部對(duì)緬甸駐重慶總領(lǐng)事館開館表示祝賀，回顧了中緬友好交往歷程。他表示，緬甸是東盟重要國家，中緬兩國山水相連，胞波情誼深厚，雙邊關(guān)系長期保持良好勢(shì)頭。他提到，重慶是中西部唯一的直轄市，區(qū)位優(yōu)勢(shì)明顯，與緬甸經(jīng)貿(mào)、人文交往頻繁，各領(lǐng)域合作前景廣闊。他指出，緬甸駐重慶總領(lǐng)館是繼緬駐昆明、南寧總領(lǐng)事館后，緬方在中國內(nèi)地設(shè)立的第三個(gè)總領(lǐng)館，這將有利于進(jìn)一步拓展兩國地方間各領(lǐng)城交流與合作，提升緬方在華領(lǐng)事服務(wù)水平，不斷豐富中緬命運(yùn)共同體的內(nèi)涵。中國外交部愿同重慶市一道，為總領(lǐng)館的工作提供便利和協(xié)助。

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Director-General Wei Xiaodong extended his congratulations on the opening of the Consulate General and recalled the friendly relations between China and Myanmar. He said Myanmar is an important member of ASEAN. The two countries were connected by mountains and rivers and enjoyed a profound “Pauk Phaw” Friendship which had maintained good momentum for many years. He also mentioned that Chongqing was the only municipality directly under the central government in central-western China, boasting distinctive geographical advantages. There had been frequent economic and cultural exchanges between Chongqing and Myanmar, bringing broad prospects for bilateral cooperation in various areas. Moreover, the Consulate General in Chongqing was the third consulate Myanmar had set up in China’s mainland, after those in Kunming and Nanning, which would help strengthen regional exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, upgrade the level of Myanmar’s consular services in China, and enrich the connotation of China-Myanmar community of shared future. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the Chongqing Municipal Government were ready to facilitate the work of the Consulate General.

On behalf of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, Vice Mayor Dan Yanzheng extended warm congratulations on the opening of the Myanmar Consulate General in Chongqing. He said China and Myanmar are close neighbors connected by shared mountains and rivers. The “Pauk Phaw” Friendship could date back to ancient times. In the context of further China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic partnership,Chongqing and Myanmar had engaged in the Belt and Road cooperation in an all-round way with the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) as a key enabler.The cooperation in various fields had deepened continuously and achieved impressive progress. The opening of the Myanmar Consulate-General in Chongqing represented a new starting point and injected new impetus into Chongqing-Myanmar friendly interactions and cooperation. The Chongqing Municipal Government would strongly support the work of the Myanmar Consulate-General in Chongqing to sustain exchanges between Chongqing and Myanmar.

At the opening ceremony, representing the Chongqing Municipal Government, Vice Mayor Dan Yanzheng presented a Shanshen lacquer vase to the Consulate General as a gift. He also cut ribbons for the Consulate General together with Ambassador Myo Thant Pe, Consul-General Zaw Linn Oo, and other guests.

The consular districts of the Myanmar Consulate-General in Chongqing include Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province, and Hubei Province, providing business,cultural, visa, and consular protection services. On the day of the opening ceremony,signing and unveiling ceremonies on exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing and Myanmar were also held. The Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development and the General Department of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar signed and exchanged the Memorandum for Tourism Cooperation;the Myanmar Promotion Center was unveiled successfully; 4 Chongqing-Myanmar cooperation projects were signed; a Myanmar Jewelry Exhibition and a Myanmar Product Exhibition were also presented at the ceremony.

緬甸駐重慶總領(lǐng)事館領(lǐng)區(qū)包括重慶市、四川省及湖北省，具有商務(wù)、文化、簽證、領(lǐng)事保護(hù)職能。開館儀式當(dāng)日還舉行了重慶—緬甸交流合作簽約揭牌儀式，重慶市文化旅游委與緬甸國家飯店與旅游部綜合司交換合作備忘錄文本，緬甸推廣中心成功揭牌，4個(gè)重慶與緬甸合作項(xiàng)目集中簽約；緬甸珠寶展、緬甸商品展同時(shí)亮相開館儀式。
