一、too much; much too; too many

1. too much意為“太多”，其中心詞是much，修飾不可數(shù)名詞或單獨(dú)使用。如：

Don’t ear too much meat. It’s bad for your health.

不要吃太多的肉，這對你的健康有害。

2. much too意為“太”， 其中心詞是too，修飾形容詞或副詞，以加強(qiáng)語氣。如：

My uncle is a businessman. He’s always much too busy.

我叔叔是一個(gè)商人，他總是太忙。

3. too many意為“太多”，其中心詞是many，修飾可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)形式。如：

He has too many books to read.

他有太多的書要讀。

二、think about; think of; think over

1. think about意為“考慮、思考”，著重指回想起過去的事情或人，也可指考慮某件未做的事情。如：

She often thought about her old friends.

她常常想起她的老朋友。

2. think of意為“想到、想起”，指想到某人或某事。如：

What are you thinking of ？ 你正在想什么？

3.think over意為“仔細(xì)考慮、思考”，比前兩者表達(dá)得思考程度更深。如：

You don’t have to decide the matter at once. You can think it over and give me your decision tomorrow.

這件事你不必現(xiàn)在就定，你可以好好考慮一下，明天把你的決定告訴我。

三、hope; wish; expect; want

1.hope意為“希望”，指估計(jì)有可能實(shí)現(xiàn)的希望，后不能接復(fù)合賓語，也不能接雙賓語，但可接從句。

試譯：我希望你能幫助我。

誤：I hope you to help me.

正：I hope you can help me.

2. wish意為“希望、愿望”，一般用于表示不可能實(shí)現(xiàn)的愿望，后接不定式或不定式構(gòu)成的復(fù)合賓語，也可接從句。如：

I wish you to leave me alone.我希望你不要管我。

注意：wish后接賓語從句時(shí)，從句常用虛擬語氣。如：

I wish I had more money.但愿我有更多的錢。（其實(shí)沒有）

3. expect意為“期望、預(yù)料”， 指相信或認(rèn)為某事有可能實(shí)現(xiàn)，后接名詞、代詞、不定式或從句。如：

We are expecting a letter from him.

我們正盼望著他的信。

4. want意為“希望、想要”，指想要某物或想做某事，后接名詞、不定式或不定式的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)。如：

I want a cup of coffee. 我想要一杯咖啡。

四、in the end; finally; at last

1. in the end意為“終于、最后”， 指經(jīng)過許多變化、困難和捉摸不定的情況后，某事發(fā)生。如：

He bougth the house in the end.

他終于買下了這棟房子。

2. finally意為“最后”，通常在列舉事物或論點(diǎn)時(shí)把它放在句首，然后引出最后一項(xiàng)內(nèi)容。如：

He spoke at the meeting finally.

他在會上最后發(fā)言。

3. at last意為“最后”，有時(shí)可與“finally”互換，一般帶有較濃厚的感情色彩，常常表示經(jīng)過努力或曲折的過程之后得到結(jié)果。如：

After working hard for three years， he went to the college at last.

經(jīng)過三年的刻苦學(xué)習(xí)，他終于上了大學(xué)。
