Dennis decided to make his first dream and make mess1. When the bottle broke， the dream mix was released2 and filled the room. Dennis then jumped onto the conveyor belt. It carried him out of the room， into a dark tunnel3. When he heard some gnomes coming， Dennis climbed out and hid behind a pile of bags. The sign above the door read， “Packing Room.”

丹尼斯決定先制造一個夢境然后引起混亂。當(dāng)瓶子打碎的時候，混合的夢境被釋放出來，彌漫在整個房間里。丹尼斯趁機跳到一個傳送帶上。傳送帶將他帶出了這個房間，進入了一個黑暗的隧道。聽到有小矮人們走過來時，丹尼斯爬了出去，藏在一堆袋子后面，門上的牌子寫著“打包間”。

Just then a gnome driving a small car went into the room. Dennis saw his chance to get out of the room. He hid between two bags. He ran to another room. The room was small， and there was little light. There was only one gnome inside， and he sat at the conveyor belt， stamping4 each paper as it passed.

就在這時，一個小矮人開著一輛小汽車進入這個房間。丹尼斯看準(zhǔn)了離開這個房間的時機，他躲到兩個包之間，然后跑到了另一個房間。這個房間很小，幾乎沒有光。里面只有一個小矮人，他坐在傳送帶旁邊，給每一張經(jīng)過的紙蓋章。

“Hello，” said Dennis.

丹尼斯問候道：“你好?！?/p>

“I am the Stamper. I have to stamp to the papers and I cannot miss a single one. No one can look at these papers. Now stop bothering5 me because you make me miss.”

“我是蓋印人，我要給這些紙蓋章，一張都不能漏掉。任何人都不能看這些紙上的內(nèi)容。現(xiàn)在請不要打擾我，因為你會讓我的工作出紕漏的?！?/p>

“Well...what kind of papers are they？” asked Dennis.

丹尼斯問道：“好吧，這些都是什么紙？”

“Employee contracts6！No one may look！” shouted the Stamper. “I dont even look at them.”

蓋印人喊道：“雇傭合同。任何人都不能看，甚至連我都沒看過?！?/p>

“You dont look？ But youre approving7 them. How can you do that？”

“你都沒看過？但是你卻在批閱。你怎么做到的？”

“All these papers need approving， and without me they would not get approved.”

“所有紙張都需要批閱，沒有我，這些東西就不會被批準(zhǔn)?！?/p>

“Youre not even reading them，” answered Dennis. “Dont you think its irresponsible8？ Dont you think its silly9？ Dont you think its...wrong？”

“可是你都沒讀過它們的內(nèi)容，你不覺得你這樣很不負責(zé)任嗎，你不覺得你這樣做很愚蠢嗎？你不覺得你這樣做……是不對的嗎？”丹尼斯說。

Stamper froze10 for a few seconds， then shook his head and went on stamping again. The door opened and a dozen gnomes with uniforms ran in. They grabbed11 Dennis and picked him up.

蓋印人愣了一會兒，然后搖頭繼續(xù)蓋章。這時候，門開了，一群穿著制服的小矮人沖進來，他們抓住丹尼斯并逮捕了他。

“Weve found you！Youre going to see Remmy.”

“終于找到你了，我們要帶你去見雷米。”

“We had a deal， Dennis. Why did you leave your spot on the factory line？ It took us a long time to fix the mess you made，” Remmy said angrily12.

雷米憤怒地說：“我們之間說好的，丹尼斯。為什么你要離開你的工作崗位？我們花了很長時間來解決你制造的混亂。”

Dennis didnt know what to say. His eyes were feeling very heavy. He tried his best to keep his eyes open and listen but it was getting harder and harder. DC leaned over and whispered13 in his ear. “Let yourself fall asleep.”

丹尼斯不知道該說些什么，他感覺他的眼皮很重。他盡量睜開眼睛仔細聽，但是眼皮越來越重。DC探過身子，在他耳邊輕聲說：“讓自己睡著?！?/p>

“What？” Dennis whispered back.

“什么？”丹尼斯小聲問道。

“Its the only way. I have your dream mixed here. If you fall asleep， he will force to talk to you inside your dream，” said DC.

“這是唯一的方式。我可以把你的夢境混合一下。如果你睡著了，他會強行在你的夢中與你說話?！盌C說。

Inside his dream， Remmy was standing in an open field. He was larger than the other gnomes， with green eyes.

在夢中，雷米站在一片很開闊的場地中。他比其他的小矮人都要大很多，眼睛還是綠色的。

“Do you really think that you can battle me in a dream？ I am Remmy， master of all dreams and creator of nightmares14！” shouted Remmy.

“你以為你真能在夢境中和我抗?fàn)巻?？我是雷米，是所有夢境的主人、噩夢的?chuàng)造者！”雷米吼道。

“I just want to go home，” shouted Dennis. “I dont want to fight anyone.”

“我只是想回家，不想和任何人斗爭?！钡つ崴勾蠼兄?。

“I decide where you go， and you are not leaving.” Shackles15 turned out of nowhere and locked around Dennis arms and legs.

“我才能決定你去哪，你不準(zhǔn)離開?！笔咒D腳鐐憑空出現(xiàn)，鎖住了丹尼斯的手和腳。

“You see， you will never get away. I can do whatever I want here. I can even be bigger if I want！” Remmy was larger in size right before Dennis eyes.

“瞧，你永遠逃不掉的。我可以為所欲為，只要我想我就可以變得無限大！”說著，雷米在丹尼斯的眼前變得更大了。

“What can you do？！” laughed Remmy.

“你能怎么辦？”雷米嘲笑道。

“I can count wolves，” A wolf came out next to Dennis， shouting at Remmy.

“我可以數(shù)狼?！币黄ダ浅霈F(xiàn)在丹尼斯旁邊，朝著雷米咆哮。

“Wolves？” asked Remmy with a bit of doubt in his voice.

“狼？”雷米帶著疑惑問道。

“Yes， wolves，” answered Dennis.

“沒錯，狼?！钡つ崴够卮鸬?。

Wolves started coming out by the hundreds.

然后，數(shù)以百計的狼群出現(xiàn)了。

“What are you doing？！” cried Remmy， “Get them away from me！”

雷米喊道：“你在干什么？快把它們從我身邊弄走?！?/p>

“Youve got to get out of here. Now its your chance. It looks like Remmy is stuck in a nightmare，” said DC.

“你得趕快離開，這是你的機會。雷米好像被噩夢困住了?！盌C說。

Dennis ran straight out of the room and down the hallway. He came back. He pulled down the sock and climbed inside. Then， he took all the socks in his drawer， brought them outside into the garbage can outside.

丹尼斯徑直跑出這個房間，沿著通道一直往下跑。他終于回來了。他拉下襪子，從通道里面爬出來，然后他從抽屜里把所有的襪子都拿出來，帶到外面扔進垃圾桶里。

“Hi， Dennis， I told you a good news，” said DC， as he climbed up onto the bed. “Remmy is gone. Now that Im in charge of the factory！The funny thing about that is that the contract was never stamped. First time its ever happened.”

“你好呀，丹尼斯，我告訴你一個好消息。”DC一邊說一邊爬上床，“雷米不在了?，F(xiàn)在我是這個工廠的主人！更有趣的一件事是，你的雇傭合同沒有蓋章，以前從來沒發(fā)生過這種事情的?！?/p>

Dennis smiled and was ready to sleep. That night he dreamt of gnomes， and socks， and beautiful colors， and smelt of peppermint16.

丹尼斯笑了，然后去準(zhǔn)備睡覺了。這個夜晚他夢到了很多小矮人、襪子，各種各樣的顏色，還有淡淡的薄荷味。
