A long time ago, in ancient China, there lived a young girl named Hua Mulan.

Mulan's father was once a general.

He had fought in many wars, and was very brave.

When Mulan's father retired, he was old and frail.

很久以前，在古代中國，有一個年輕的女孩，名叫花木蘭。

木蘭的父親曾是一名將軍。

他曾征戰(zhàn)多年，驍勇善戰(zhàn)。

木蘭的父親退役時已年老體衰。

Mulan's father taught Mulan how to use a sword, and how to ride a horse when she was a child.

在木蘭小的時候，她的父親就教她如何用劍，如何騎馬。

He trained her for many years, and Mulan became skillful.

他訓練了木蘭很多年，木蘭變得技藝嫻熟。

然而，終于有一天，戰(zhàn)爭爆發(fā)了。

One day, however, the war broke out.

The recruiters arrived at Mulan's village.

They asked of every family for one man to join the army.

征兵的人來到木蘭的村子。

他們要求每個家庭都出一個男人參軍。

木蘭知道如果父親去參戰(zhàn), 一定會戰(zhàn)死沙場。

于是，她穿上父親的軍裝，佩上父親的劍，女扮男裝，代父從軍。

Mulan knew that if her father went off to the war, he would surely die.

So she took her father's uniform and sword, dressed as a man, and joined the army instead of her father.

In order to hide the fact that she was a girl,she cut her hair and made her voice deep.

Mulan learned some new skills such as archery and Kung Fu in the army.

在軍隊里，木蘭學習了一些新的技能，比如射箭和功夫。

為了隱藏自己的女兒身，她剪短了長發(fā)，壓低了嗓音。

Twelve years passed. Mulan fought in many battles, and became one of the best soldiers in the army.

經(jīng)過十二年的征戰(zhàn)，木蘭成了軍隊里最棒的士兵之一。

After the victory of the war, the emperor wanted to reward Mulan.

But Mulan thanked the emperor, and told him that she just wanted to go back home.

She then revealed to him that she was a woman.

The Emperor was shocked, but he respected her.

戰(zhàn)爭勝利后，皇帝想要獎勵木蘭。

但是木蘭謝過皇恩，告訴皇帝她只想回家。

然后她透露了自己的女兒身份。

皇帝很震驚，但尊重了她的意愿。

Eventually, Mulan came back to her village.

When Mulan's father saw her, he burst out in tears of happiness.

Mulan lived in peace there for the rest of her life.

Her story became a legend of China.

最終，木蘭回到了村子。

木蘭的父親見到了女兒，激動得熱淚盈眶。

木蘭在那里平靜地度過了余生。

她的故事成了中國的傳奇。

第一幕

場景：木蘭家門口 角色：旁白、木蘭的父親、木蘭

旁白：It is a bright day. Mulan and her father sit on the grass to rest after practicing swordwork.

木蘭的父親神情嚴肅：Remember to be strong in the fi ght.

木蘭：I know, Father.

木蘭的父親：If you are not strong, then you will fall.

木蘭：Yes father, I know.

旁白：Mulan looks away and watches some other young girls delicately painting their faces.

木蘭：Why don't the other girls learn how to fight? Why is it only me?

木蘭的父親：Because most people think girls shouldn't learn such things. The fight is only for men.

木蘭：But you think differently?

木蘭的父親：Yes. I think it is useful for everybody to learn. Come on, get up. Your break is over（木蘭起身，繼續(xù)練劍。）

第二幕

場景：木蘭家 角色：旁白、士兵、木蘭的父親、木蘭

旁白：The government official is making an announcement. All the village folk are listening,including Mulan and her father.

士兵：The war is coming! We need a man from every family to join us and fight.

旁白：The official pastes up(張貼) a notice and everyone gathers around to read.

士兵：You must sign your name on here. We will leave on tomorrow morning.

木蘭：Father, what will you do? My brother is too young.

木蘭的父親：Yes, you're right. I must fi ght.

木蘭：No! You're much too old! There must be another way!

木蘭的父親：Only men can fi ght in wars. I must prepare and go.

木蘭：But you will die if you fi ght!

木蘭的父親：Mulan! Do not speak of this now! There is no other way.

旁白：Mulan's father walks away. Mulan stares at the notice.

木蘭：There is another way. I will pretend to be a man and fi ght for you.

（父親退場，木蘭穿上父親的鎧甲，拿上父親的劍，騎馬離開了家。）

第三幕

場景：軍隊里 角色：旁白、木蘭、士兵甲、士兵乙

旁白：Mulan is practising Kung Fu. Two of her comrades are watching her practice.

士兵甲：You know, for a guy, he is actually quite pretty.

士兵乙：Yes, it's strange. And his skills are amazing.

旁白：Mulan notices the soldiers watching her. She walks over to them.

木蘭：Want to join me?

士兵甲一臉疲憊：No, we have just fi nished our practice. We're tired.

士兵乙坐在地上摸著肚子：Yeah, we're going to get some food.

木蘭神色凝重：But there is a war going on! We have to be ready.

士兵甲：We can't be as hardworking as you.

木蘭：I want to be ready when the enemy comes.

士兵乙：You have my respect.

木蘭：Thank you.

（木蘭繼續(xù)習武，兩個士兵準備去吃飯。）

第四幕

場景：宮殿里 角色：旁白、皇帝、木蘭

旁白：The Emperor is giving Mulan an award.

皇帝：You have done us proud.

木蘭：Thank you, your highness. It was my honor.

皇帝：I wish you to join my council(政務部門).

木蘭：Thank you, your highness, but I must decline.

皇帝一臉疑惑：Hmm? Why so?

木蘭：I wish only to go back home, and live in peace with my family.

皇帝摸摸下巴：If that is your wish.

木蘭神色緊張：I must tell you something else. I am no man. I am a woman named Mulan.

皇帝起身走向木蘭：Really?

木蘭：Yes, I am sorry I have lied to you.

皇帝拍拍木蘭的肩膀：It is okay, Mulan. You are a brave woman. Now, go home and see your family. They must miss you very much.

木蘭：Thank you so much! Your highness.

（木蘭眼含淚水，向皇帝鞠躬致謝。然后散開束發(fā)，騎馬奔向自己的家鄉(xiāng)。）
