謝楚余:生活中散發(fā)的藝術(shù)魅力

作為著名油畫家,他擅長將中國題材與人物用西方古典繪畫手法表達(dá)出來,顯得既典雅高貴又為大眾喜聞樂見。他不僅在藝術(shù)上追求完美,對生活也傾注著獨(dú)特的藝術(shù)追求

著名油畫家謝楚余最近應(yīng)邀到廣東汕頭參加海內(nèi)外名賢藝術(shù)聚會(huì),與海外歸來的華僑同胞、藝術(shù)大師們歡聚縱論藝界盛事,共同探討丹青藝術(shù)和收藏文化。作為油畫大家,謝楚余不僅在藝術(shù)上造詣?lì)H深,對生活也傾注著獨(dú)特的藝術(shù)追求。

每一個(gè)為家庭所構(gòu)筑的世界中,美麗永遠(yuǎn)是源于我們內(nèi)心那份對幸福生活的向往,藝術(shù)家謝楚余更不例外,但他更擅長于為空間的任何一處角落營造一份愜意的景致,讓藝術(shù)的意象在生活中蔓延。

在謝楚余的家居中,面對主人對藝術(shù)與生活全景的把握,我們無法去衡量生活與藝術(shù)的輕重,因?yàn)?,那里沒有誰是主角、誰是配角,藝術(shù)地棲居使人賞心悅目、流連忘返之余,更獲得一種詩性的智慧。

讓藝術(shù)意象在生活中蔓延

謝楚余對建筑藝術(shù)有自己的見解,他說,我十分喜歡具有大都市氣息的地方,特別是歐洲城市。法國與德國的城市多是藝術(shù)和文化之都,歷史遺跡、博物館、名人故居和歌劇院等人文景觀數(shù)不勝數(shù)。在那些城市,現(xiàn)代建筑與古老建筑混合在一起,展現(xiàn)著深厚的人文積淀,卻也充滿活力,具有非常鮮明的城市個(gè)性,生活在其中的人們在想象與憧憬中不自覺地放松心情,這樣的城市與建筑營造的是一種具有高生活品味的城市生活。

家居的布置,只要是情之所引,也必然會(huì)有一種永恒的魅力。謝楚余位于廣州美院的家居空間,盡管快要搬離這個(gè)住了將近20年的地方,但光潔的地板與錯(cuò)落有致的空間布局,仍然能讓人感受到生活的自然怡適。

進(jìn)門入眼,光亮的木地板與暖白色的墻面粉飾了老房子的陳舊,收獲一份熱愛生活的感動(dòng);用鮮花錦簇的美麗形象來增添空間的活力,收獲的是坐擁四季的美景;毫無隔斷的客廳、雅致的拱門與日式榻榻米化解了空間局促的尷尬,收獲的是豐富的空間意象。

在每一個(gè)為家庭所構(gòu)筑的世界中,美麗永遠(yuǎn)是源于我們內(nèi)心那份對幸福生活的向往,藝術(shù)家謝楚余更不例外,但他更擅長于為空間的任何一處地方營造一份愜意的景致,讓藝術(shù)的意象在生活中蔓延……無論大門邊上擺滿藝術(shù)品的邊柜、客廳墻面裝飾的油畫原作、電視柜上的木雕與鮮花,還是畫室中的陶陶罐罐、畫架和干花,都可以就著自己的空間角落,自成一景。在拍攝空間圖片的過程中,忙里忙外的謝楚余顯得特別的“可愛”與“較真”,擺弄著不同顏色的花束、道具,或是撤離大堆大堆的書本,甚至為攝影師找好構(gòu)圖角度,而這僅僅為了那定格的一瞬間,突然明白,追求極致唯美不僅是其作品的風(fēng)格,已然成為一種習(xí)慣……

藝術(shù)藏品的另類詮釋

居住,有時(shí)和人的想象有關(guān)。每一種事物,如何在一個(gè)空間中,吟詠出屬于它們各自純粹的美,如何交匯誕生出和諧的神韻,這都需要想象。在謝楚余的家中,便有足夠多的事物去激發(fā)人的想象,這種想象,可以是未來,也可以是過去。許多來自不同地方、風(fēng)格不同的藝術(shù)藏品與自己的畫作,在這個(gè)空間中,若即若離,收藏著生活中的一切可能。

這個(gè)空間中還有圣母瑪利亞木雕像、臉譜木雕掛件、云南的毛毯以及陶陶罐罐等來自不同地方、新舊程度不同的藝術(shù)品被“任意”地組合,讓空間呈現(xiàn)出豐富的視覺享受。謝楚余說,他喜歡旅游,喜歡每到一處就去藝術(shù)品市場“淘寶”,也許不是最貴的,但一定是最合他眼緣的。對許多自己畫作中的“配角”的實(shí)物,有鐵壺,也有陶罐,還有干花,謝楚余也津津樂道:“我的這些物件都在我的畫作中出現(xiàn)過,許多人都反映感覺不錯(cuò),但其實(shí)這些都是很普通的事物,但現(xiàn)在看來,它們既是道具,也能為家居增添別樣的味道,一舉兩得?!毙老仓?,溢于言表。

許多人熱衷于收藏“舊物”,大多是因?yàn)樗鼈冇猩档目臻g。但在謝楚余這里,可以得到了另類的詮釋。謝楚余也喜歡收藏“舊物”,在電視柜旁邊的潮州木通雕就是他費(fèi)了好大的勁才弄到手的心愛藏品,歲月的洗禮讓這幾板具有百年歷史的金漆木通雕散發(fā)出悠遠(yuǎn)綿長的歷史感,在居室角落靜享一份遠(yuǎn)離喧囂的本真。而位于畫室與小書房隔斷的推拉墻上,兩條從貴州帶回的長約兩米的原始圖騰木雕與木色的空間主調(diào)呼應(yīng),在柔美空間氛圍與原始張力的矛盾中尋求著統(tǒng)一。在謝楚余看來,現(xiàn)代事物往往給人以距離感,“舊物”盛放出一種歲月流光的華美與豐滿,不僅能讓人回味,還帶有更多的包容,似乎隔著數(shù)代的時(shí)光遙相對望,人的心境也會(huì)特別地開闊……

藝術(shù)之美為大眾喜聞樂見

謝楚余從1989年起,先后在中國廣州、臺灣,并在新加坡、美國等地舉辦9次個(gè)人畫展。1993年和2001年分別赴美國、法國進(jìn)行學(xué)術(shù)交流及專業(yè)考察。至今已游歷了五十余國。代表作有《和輯百越》《唐人街》《英雄團(tuán)長劉放吾》《春音》《南國少女》《陶》《木板上的拳套》《旅人》《炫》《荔鄉(xiāng)女》等。

謝楚余的畫最大特點(diǎn)就在于將中國題材與人物用西方古典繪畫手法表達(dá)出來,顯得既典雅高貴又為大眾喜聞樂見。當(dāng)近距離去感受畫面內(nèi)容、造型、色彩與作者的技法,體會(huì)到的是畫冊遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)無法給予的細(xì)膩與感染。謝楚余筆下的女子多為現(xiàn)代女性,背景為室外自然風(fēng)景,女子神態(tài)平靜、空靈,纖塵不染。很多人評價(jià)謝楚余的畫“唯美、典雅、高貴、細(xì)致”。也許之前,總會(huì)認(rèn)為謝楚余的油畫只是意在刻畫美女,如今細(xì)細(xì)體味卻會(huì)發(fā)覺藝術(shù)家的意圖并沒有這么簡單。謝楚余說,他筆下的“美女”并非現(xiàn)實(shí)中的個(gè)體,找模特、找角度,畫作展現(xiàn)的形象是集合眾多個(gè)體之美的結(jié)果,或平和、寧靜、恬淡、寵辱不動(dòng),或純真、靈動(dòng)、潔凈、不沾染一塵世俗,但呈現(xiàn)給這個(gè)世界的一定是最美的姿態(tài)。

畫室中,謝楚余毫不吝嗇地將畫作一一擺放出來,其中,《春音》這幅新作讓眾多參觀者駐足不前。與謝楚余之前的任何作品都不同,該畫雖然延續(xù)了寫實(shí)唯美、追求極致的風(fēng)貌,但在顏料應(yīng)用和色彩處理上有大膽與全新的實(shí)驗(yàn),并體現(xiàn)出一種夢幻華麗的時(shí)代感,使觀者備感奢華富貴?!爱嬛猩倥梢栽陔鼥V朧、仿佛花影搖曳的背景烘托下,眼神迷離,如沐春風(fēng)。那斑斕絢麗的衣服和自然飄逸的發(fā)絲似乎在朝霞或晚煙中晃動(dòng)”。這些藝術(shù)效果的出現(xiàn)都要?dú)w功于富有現(xiàn)代元素和實(shí)驗(yàn)性技法的應(yīng)用,謝楚余說:“《春音》的創(chuàng)作中,首次采用了金色和祖母綠等顏料,畫中的中國紅則是純粹的朱砂,此外還使用了三種用貝殼做成的珍珠色,這樣就可看出透明的質(zhì)地,而在不同角度還折射出紅、紫、綠等幻化的色彩。”endprint

其實(shí),一直以來,謝楚余都堅(jiān)持在顏料運(yùn)用和色彩方面做各種各樣的實(shí)驗(yàn),他不愿意重復(fù)自己,更不愿意復(fù)制過去。在謝楚余的油畫世界,他在用一種唯美的意象表達(dá)著自己的追求,他總在極力追求一種“理想美”。正如他所說的那樣,藝術(shù)終究是用來創(chuàng)造美的;而美,終究是用來給人以愉悅和享受的。

Xie Chuyu:

Prominent Oil Painter

An associate professor and supervisor to graduate students with Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Xie Chuyu is a famed oil painting master specialized in portraiture. He has held nine solo exhibitions at home and abroad since 1989. In 1993 and 2001, he visited USA and France respectively for academic exchanges and studies. His works have appeared at many national and provincial exhibitions. He has published six books of oil paintings.

Recently, we visited him at his home and took some photos there. The following is an incomplete summary of the impressions we got from the photo-shot visit.

Xie loves traveling. So far he has traveled in over 50 countries and regions across the world. He has long since been in love with European cities and he likes the architectural beauty and cultural traditions there. He can count the historical sites, museums, celebrities homes, and opera houses in the cities he has visited in France and Germany, thinking these cities are time-honored and have unique personalities and charismas. He says he feels relaxed in these cities.

The taste Professor Xie has acquired from visits to European cities can be seen at his home on the campus of the academy. He has lived there for nearly 20 years and is about to move to a new home. The apartment looked graceful: the shiny floorboards and white walls concealed the tear and wear of the old building. The artists love for colors presented itself everywhere: flowers in an open space and paintings. Some valuable collectors items and tourist souvenirs were everywhere: wood sculptures, facial masks, tapestries, dehydrated flowers, and pottery pieces. They were displayed artistically and they could be regrouped willfully to morph into new presentations. In fact, Xie moved things around so as to create new backgrounds for photos to be taken.

Xie mentioned that he likes to visit art and souvenir markets wherever he travels. He doesnt buy the most expensive things. He buys what appeals to him at the first sight. Some objects he bought from his treasure hunts have appeared in his paintings: an iron kettle, a pottery jar, dehydrated flowers. “Some people have commented that these objects feel right in my paintings. In fact, they are ordinary things. In retrospect, they not only are props in paintings but also add an artistic touch to my home,” the artist commented joyfully.endprint

Unlike some collectors who wait for their collections to become more valuable, Xie Chuyu enjoys the beauty of his treasures. A few woodcarving pieces on display beside the television set are his favorites. He took trouble to put his hands on them. The woodcarving pieces, all several hundred years old and gilded, quietly featured serenity and innocence in the corner of the sitting room. On the wooden wall between his studio and library were two primitive totem woodcarvings he brought back from his trip to Guizhou in southwestern China. Each totem thing measured about 2 meters long, presenting a harmony between the ancient ferocity of the totems and the spatial softness of the wall.

We came into Xies studio. The artist brought out his latest works and allowed us to take a look. The paintings were impressive. Xie Chuyu stands out as an oil painter who features the Chinese subject matter in the classic western approach. His paintings present grace and nobleness, which Chinese people find no difficulty appreciating. Most of the portraits he paints are young women. They look ethereal. Some critics say that Xies paintings are aesthetic, graceful, immaculate, and noble and that Xie spares no efforts to get the infinitesimal details perfect. “The heartthrobs in my paintings are not real ones in everyday life,” explained Xie. “A young woman in a painting combines elements from various sources. Some look serene, peaceful as if nothing in the world can disturb them and some look pure and innocent.” We were under the impression that all the girls looked perfect in a perfect world.

The visit to the studio gave us an opportunity to take a closer look at the originals. The originals presented touches on the canvases that are often lost in photos and print publications. Xie explained his latest experiment on colors to us in one painting. In the painting, he applied some tints which he had never used before. In fact, Xie keeps trying to break new grounds in his painting of beautiful women. He hates to repeat himself. His is in a pursuit of idealism and perfectionism. In his world, art is ultimately about beauty that breeds joy and appreciation.endprint
