High school football was a Thanksgiving tradition in my hometown. Usually, Mom was the one who stayed at home, while Dad, my sister and I headed out to the game. One year, my aunt decided to give Mom a break and offered to help make the turkey and all the1)trimming ['tr?m??] n. 收拾,整頓trimmings, so Mom could attend the game with us.
When we got home, my aunt had quite the story to tell! She decided to place a paper bag like a tent over the turkey. It wasn’t too long before smoke was coming from the oven. She opened the oven door to find that the paper bag was on fi re! She was unsure what to do next and started to panic. The kitchen was filled with smoke.
Fortunately, our neighbor was in his yard during that time. He came in and removed the2)flaming ['fle?m??] adj. 燃燒的flaming turkey from the oven, stamped out the fire, and calmed down my aunt. After getting rid of the ashes, the turkey went back into the oven.
When we arrived home after the game, we had no idea what happened until she told us. We all had a good laugh and shared a3)prayer [pre?] n. 祈禱,祈禱文prayer of thanksgiving for a delicious turkey and having a home that was still4)intact [?n't?kt] adj. We also made sure to visit our neighbor to let him know how thankful we were. He really saved the day!

或“offer sth. to sb.”。
His father offered me a lot of money last year.
=His father offered a lot of money to me last year.
The little boy offered an old woman his seat.
=The little boy offered his seat to an old woman.
I’m glad that they offered to help us.
He didn’t know how to answer her.
When to start has not been decided.
I don’t know who to ask advice from.
Would you please advise me which to buy?
