Honi the Wise Onewas also known as Honi the Circle Maker. By drawing a circle and stepping inside of it, he would1)recitespecial2)prayersfor rain. Sometimes, he even argued with God during a3)drought, and the rains would come. He was, indeed, a4)miraclemaker. As wise as he was, Honi sometimes saw something that5)puzzledhim, then, he would ask questions so he could solve the mystery.

One day, Honi was walking on the road and he saw a man planting a6)carob tree. Honi asked the man, “How long will it take for this tree to7)bearfruit?”

The man replied, “Seventy years.”

Honi then asked the man, “And do you think you will live another seventy years and eat the fruit of this tree?”

Honi the Wise One（智者霍尼，又被稱作畫圓人霍尼），公元前1世紀的一名猶太學(xué)者。他最為人稱道的，便是他能夠成功祈雨的神奇能力。

The man answered, “Perhaps not. However, when I was born into this world, I found many carob trees planted by my father and grandfather. Just as they planted trees for me, I am planting trees for my children and grandchildren so they will be able to eat the fruit of these trees.”

智者霍尼也被稱為畫圓人霍尼。只要畫出一個圓，接著往里頭一站，他便能默誦特殊的禱文祈雨。有時，他甚至?xí)诟珊禃r期和上帝爭論，而后雨水便會到來。他確實能創(chuàng)造奇跡。然而就算是像霍尼這么聰明的人，有時也會遇到令他感到疑惑的事情，但隨后他會通過提問來解開謎團。

有一天，霍尼在路上看見有個人在種角豆樹?；裟岜銌柲莻€人，“這棵樹要花多長時間才能結(jié)出果實呢？”

那人回答道，“七十年。”

霍尼接著問道，“那么你認為你還能再多活七十年來享用這棵樹上的果實嗎？”

那個男人回答，“也許不能了。然而，當我降生到這個世界時，我發(fā)現(xiàn)我的父親和祖父已經(jīng)種下了很多角豆樹。就像他們種樹是為了我一樣，我現(xiàn)在也是在為我的子孫們種樹，這樣他們就可以吃到這些樹上的果實了?！?/p>
