【Abstract】Language is closely connected to culture, which is a presentation of culture. College English teaching is not just the language teaching, the cultural introduction is also essential. The paper puts forward the concrete application of culture introduction in college English class through analyzing the importance of culture introduction. It is helpful to change students lower cultural quality and poor communicative competence. It is conducive to have a clear understanding of English culture and improve students English integrated applied abilities and communication skills.

In our country, college English teaching emphasizes on the English language teaching and training for a long time. By training students listening, reading, speaking and writing, grasping pronunciation and intonation, vocabulary and grammar, teacher thinks that students can understand and express English freely. They often ignore the culture introduction. This causes the phenomenon that teacher only pay attention to the teaching of language knowledge, put less emphasis on culture introduction.

I.The importance of culture introduction in college English teaching

Language is closely connected to culture, and culture is the basis of language formation and development. A certain culture has its corresponding language. Language also cannot exist independently without culture. As a language teaching, teacher should effectively introduce culture in college English teaching. Teacher should help students to understand and master the language. At the same time, they should help them to fully understand the cultural meaning behind language.

II. The application of culture introduction

If teacher wants their teaching effect to be improved, they should well combine the culture introduction with English teaching. Culture is an enormous and complex system. It includes everything. But in college English teaching, the time is so limited that teacher should combine culture with the specific teaching objectives and choose effective methods to introduce it.

2.1 The introduction of the background knowledge of text.Before each unit teaching, teacher should briefly introduce the relevant background knowledge of the text. Culture generally includes some related geography knowledge, historical background, political economy, literature and art knowledge, religious beliefs and customs. The knowledge of culture can help students to understand text better. It is an essential part of the cultural introduction. It is beneficial to understand the text well.

2.2 Employing multimedia to assist cultural introduction.It is a simple, effective and popular teaching way to employ multimedia to assist cultural introduction. Students not only can hear the idiomatic English, but also can know pronunciation and intonation, expressions and acts, and social environment of national people. They can appreciate some extraordinary exoticness. Through employing multimedia, students can appreciate and learn English songs. English songs have obvious cultural style and features. Teacher also can play some English movies or TV programs to lead students to observe and understand the social culture. Meanwhile, teacher can give some topics related to English culture, ask students to research them online. After that, students can read more information and materials of English culture. In general, teacher can make full use of multimedia to stimulate students interests and help them to accumulate cultural knowledge constantly.

2.3 Outside class reading and other activities.Teachers can guide students to read representative literary works. Literature is a part of culture. A literary works can reflect the historical background, artistic characteristics, philosophy viewpoint, certain relationships, custom and values, etc. In other words, a literature has its special cultural connotation. And literary works can provide the specific, vivid, deep and comprehensive information. It makes readers get the vivid image of culture and understand the reflected broad social background. Meanwhile, teacher can organize some activities, such as English story, speech contest and s short play, etc. These activities can make students experience English culture and custom, and make students feel the different cultural atmosphere in the pleasant atmosphere.

III. Conclusion

It is necessary to introduce culture in college English teaching. Teacher should pay attention to culture introduction and combine language teaching and culture teaching tightly. According to the textbook contents, teacher should choose the appropriate methods and contents of cultural introduction in order to make students gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of culture and improve students English integrated applied abilities and communication skills.
