China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and Elsevier B. V. achieved an agreement of an Open Ac?cess (OA) cooperation pattern from 2015 to 2017. Elsevier will publish and distribute the electron?ic version ofJournal of Palaeogeography(JoP)worldwide during this period through its website:Science Direct. Readers and authors all over the world have free accesses of reading and downloading the full?texts of all contributions published inJoPsince its launching (July, 2012) through Science Direct.

OA ofJoPaims at:

1. To enable readers to access all papers published inJoPwithout charge; it’s easy for all readers to propose suggestions forJoP; it’s easy also for them to read and cite correctly the articles published inJoP, to find new issues immediately after publication. They’re sincely welcomed to submit or recom?mend contributions toJoP.

2. To ensure papers published inJoPcan be distributed worldwide more efficiently. Even prior to being formally printed out, papers will be published online first through Science Direct after being peer?reviewed and accepted byJoP, so that they will have social influence and effect more quickly.All OA papers ofJoPtherefore can be cited by more authors than before.

3. To enhance the impact ofJoPpapers and to promote JoP to be an advanced Geoscience journal and contribute to the development and innovation of international palaeogeography.

I hope that the launch of OA ofJoPin New Year (2015) is a critical step for the development ofJoP.
