I smell summer in the air
‘Raindrops keep falling on my head
Kissing my cheeks.
‘The blues① they send to meet me wont defeat me
Frisbee②,F(xiàn)risbee
Shorts and bare feet chasing the wind
‘So I just did some talking to the sun
Sunlight breaking through
Flowery clouds give their way
‘Sleeping on your job
Sundresses flirting with③ the flip?鄄flops④
‘They keep falling
The sound of baby grass pushing out of soil
‘Because Im free
The shadow of my hair keeps padding my back
‘Nothings worrying me
Clear blue sky.
This is my poem devoted to the arrival of summer in Ithaca. Inspired by the song Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head and the poetry I am reading in my first year writing seminar,The Vertical Interrogation of Strangers.
