中國現(xiàn)任乒壇女皇張怡寧被稱為“冷面殺手”, 因為她比賽的時候臉上都是喜怒不形于色、面無表情, 讓對手猜不出來想法。這個“面無表情”就可以用poker face 來表示。

Poker 就是撲克牌, 現(xiàn)在是全世界都風行的消遣游戲了吧。對于玩牌的人來說, 臉上毫無表情、不露聲色是很重要的, 因為每個人都想猜測誰手里的牌好, 誰手里的牌差?？墒? 要是你擺出一付poker face的話, 誰也猜不出究竟你手里的牌怎么樣。

我們來舉一個例子, 看看poker face在日常生活中的用法。例如, 你的同事對你說：

I never know whether my boss likes my work or not—he is a real poker face!

我從來也不知道我的老板到底喜不喜歡我的工作。他臉上可真是一點表情都沒有。

還有的人去看醫(yī)生的時候心里非常緊張, 可是臉上卻裝得若無其事。下面這個人說的也是同樣的情況：

I tried to keep a poker face even though I was scared to death when I went back to my doctor to hear the results of my lab tests. But I admit I gave him the biggest smile of my life when he told me the tests were negative and there was nothing wrong with me.

當我去醫(yī)生那里去看化驗結果的時候, 我害怕得要死?？墒俏冶M量裝得若無其事。不過, 當大夫告訴我化驗結果是陰性，我沒有問題的時候, 我對他笑了, 我大概一輩子也沒有笑得那么高興過。
