In order to fully carry out the spirits of 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, vigorously implement the Outline of National Innovation-Driven Development Strategy, practice the mission and positioning of tribology technicians, improve the efficiency and reliability of equipment movement and power system. It has became one of the main goals of tribology researchers to study industrial friction and lubrication materials and solve the problems including equipment lubrication, lubrication equipment, lubricating oil and grease, lubricating additives and metal processing lubrication fluid. It isurgent to develop new industrial friction and lubrication materialswith excellent performance.
The controllable preparation of friction and lubrication materials and the study of lubrication mechanism are the key to break through the bottleneck of their application. The design of friction and lubrication materials has been changed from macro strategiessuch ascomponent optimization, sizecontrol and morphology control to themicroscopic behavior analysisof friction surfaceor interfaceand lubrication theory at theatomic/molecular level, and has becamean important way to solve the friction, wear and lubrication of high-end equipment. The design of friction and lubrication materials involves the surface or interface behavior and performance design of mechanical parts, systems and equipment; the research and development of anti-friction or anti-wear new materials and components;the research and development of new high-performancelubrication materials;thelifeextension theory and technology of tribology parts;the development of green lubrication technology;the control of friction or wear noise and vibration, which are the theoretical bases for improving the working efficiency of equipment motion power system, prolonging the service life and improving the reliability of mechanical systemsand high-end equipments.
This special issue focuses on the topic of industrial friction and lubrication, collecting the latest research results, experience summary and outlook of outstanding scientific research teams in the field. The special issue contains 8 latest research papers and 2 reviews, among which progress on engineering oriented solid superlubricity is the editor-inchief's choice, and self-lubricating and wear-resistant and anti-corrosive multi-functional coating technologies applied in tropical marine atmosphere is the review. The research covers a wide range of topics, including not only the preparation methods and characterization techniques of industrial friction and lubrication materials and simulation analysis, but also thepractical application progress in emerging fieldssuch aswheel rail, marineand aerospace.Eight of the original research papers include fretting wear mechanism of plasma nitride 35CrMo steel under dry and lubricated conditions;response behavior of damp-warm air to adhesion and damage of wheel-rail interface at different ambient temperatures; high-speed train wheelset axle scaling law and fretting parameter simulation analysis; tribological behavior under wide temperature range cyclic conditions and regeneration mechanism of high and low temperature lubricating phase of NiAl-Bi2O3coating after heat treatment;tribocorrosion behavior of FH36 steel in simulated seawater with different dalinity; tribological properties of MoS2-based composite films at different temperature in vacuum and its mechanism;numerical simulation on near-field aerodynamic characteristics and its induced noise for high-speed maglev trains;gear pitting life prediction based on multi-axial fatigue criterion. It is hoped that the publication of this special issue can make the readers more quickly and directly understand the forefront of the field of industrial friction and lubrication, and then promote the application of advanced friction and lubrication materialsin the industrial field,so that people'slifeismoreconvenient and healthier.
Here,I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the writers, reviewers and editors of this special issue for their excellent work and hard work!
