英語(yǔ)中有很多與dark 有關(guān)的有趣習(xí)語(yǔ)。讓我們一起來(lái)學(xué)習(xí)吧！

1.a dark horse

a dark horse 的意思是我們?nèi)粘Ｋf(shuō)的“黑馬；逆襲者；意外勝出的人”。dark horse 最初只是作為賽馬用語(yǔ)，因?yàn)椤昂隈R”在以前被認(rèn)為是一種鮮為人知的馬，后來(lái)這種說(shuō)法逐漸擴(kuò)展到其他領(lǐng)域。

e.g.He is such a dark horse！We never thought he would get the first prize fi?nally.他真是一匹黑馬！我們從來(lái)沒(méi)想過(guò)他最終會(huì)獲得一等獎(jiǎng)。

2.dark meat

dark meat 不是“黑肉”的意思，而是“雞腿肉”的意思。在美國(guó)，人們把雞肉分成“白肉”和“黑肉”。雞胸部分的肉稱(chēng)作white meat，而雞腿上的肉就稱(chēng)作dark meat。

e.g.Most of the kids like eating dark meat.大多數(shù)孩子喜歡吃雞腿（肉）。

e.g.We ordered a dark meat in that restaurant.我們?cè)谀羌也蛷d點(diǎn)了一份雞腿肉。

3.paint in dark colors

paint in dark colors 表示“把事情說(shuō)得比事實(shí)差；貶損”的意思。相反，“夸大其詞”可譯為paint in bright colors。

e.g.They did paint in dark colors about his performance.他們確實(shí)貶低他的表演了。

e.g.Why do you try to paint him in dark colors? Did he offend you anywhere?你為何老是貶損他？他是不是得罪你了？

4.a shot in the dark

a shot in the dark 表示“瞎猜；盲動(dòng)；蠻干”的意思，相當(dāng)于guess blindly。此外，還可以用stab 來(lái)代替shot，即a stab in the dark。

e.g.If you don't know what the exact answer is,just take a shot in the dark.如果你不知道正確答案是什么，就瞎猜一個(gè)吧。

e.g.It must be rigorous and can't be a shot in the dark.這事一定要嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)，不能瞎猜。

5.be left in the dark

be left in the dark 的字面意思是“被留在黑暗中”，引申為“被蒙在鼓里；一無(wú)所知”。

e.g.As one of her best friends,he is still left in the dark about her job.作為她最好的朋友之一，他仍舊對(duì)她的職業(yè)一無(wú)所知。

e.g.As he was left in the dark about it,his responsibility is small.由于他對(duì)此事一無(wú)所知，所以他的責(zé)任很小。

6.the dark side of sb/sth

the dark side of sb/sth 意為“某人/某事不為人知的一面”，常含貶義。

e.g.If you knew the dark side of him,you wouldn't trust him so much.如果你知道他不為人知的一面，你就不會(huì)如此信任他了。

7.the darkest hour is just before the dawn

該短語(yǔ)字面意思為“最黑暗的時(shí)間剛好在黎明之前”，引申為“最艱難的時(shí)刻往往在事情變好之前”，常用來(lái)表達(dá)對(duì)未來(lái)的希望或希冀。

e.g.The darkest hour is just before the dawn,so don't give up easily.最艱難的時(shí)刻總是在事情變好之前，所以不要輕易就放棄了。

8.a leap in the dark

該短語(yǔ)意為“冒險(xiǎn)舉動(dòng)”。

e.g.It is a leap in the dark! Be safe!這是冒險(xiǎn)舉動(dòng)！穩(wěn)妥點(diǎn)！
