For a freshman in college, my English class was of an entirely new challenge. College English was unfamiliar to me. Throughout the first semester, I've learned a lot from writing a scratch paper in essaywriting, which can help organize my thoughts. We should write from the heart rather thanwrite to pass.
I was not always used to writing my essays in a scratch paper. I always just thought about what I would say in my head. I tended to beat about the bush often. I have always thought that writing an essay was about whatever-comes-to-mind type of process, but in my English class I learned that before I can write an interesting essay, I have to make an outline first. Our professor required us to submit our scratch papers along with our essays. With this, I was forced to include my thoughts in my scratch paper and rewrite. It was a hard habit to develop, but as I'm writing one of my final essays now, all the writing and rewriting has made it worth it.
I have known how to write an essay outline. True enough, my first attempt to make an outline was a disaster. It was harder than it seemed to be, but with limitless patience and a ton of practice, I am now able to organize my thoughts first, put them into writing, and write a decent readable essay.
In my opinion, the most important thing I learned from learning English is to write from the heart rather than write to pass. In this course, I was very fortunate to have had a professor that had given us the privilege to choose topics that genuinely interested us. With this, I was able to learn what Writing Essays for Dummies couldn't teach. I learned to have a love for expressing myself through writing.
Overall, I've never expected to learn a lot of new things like writing a scratch paper in College English, but it turns out that I have learned what most grammar books can notoffer. I am actually starting to believe my mom's tip that college is the phase in my life where I have to expect the unexpected, whether it may be in the context of academics or experiences.
Activity A Reading for understanding
I. Text-centered chunks
throughout the first semester
be used to doing
tend to do傾向于做……
along with 和……一起
a ton of大量的
have a love for 熱愛……;喜歡……
express oneself through writing
expect the unexpected 預料未知
in the context of在……
II. Text-centered sentences
It was harder than it seemed to be, but with limitless patience and a ton of practice, I am now able to organize my thoughts first, put them into writing, and write a decent readable essay.
【點石成金】本句中,with limitless patience and a ton of practice為“with+名詞”構成的結構,在句中作狀語。

Overall, I've never expected to learn a lot of new things like writing a scratch paper in College English, but it turns out that I have learned what most grammar books can not offer.
【點石成金】“It turns out that…”

I am actually starting to believe my mom's tip that college is the phase in my life where I have to expect the unexpected, whether it may be in the context of academics or experiences.
