Earl： Yeah. We been making them for a few years now. We have， like， 42 in total.

Rachel： Greg！ You never told me！

Earl： Well， we never told anybody ’bout them. They suck[糟糕]. I mean， they’re terrible.

Rachel： I’m pretty sure they don’t suck.

Earl： Well， you can see for yourself if you want.

Rachel： Are you sure？

Greg： That was the last time I saw Rachel. She went into a coma[昏迷] shortly after that， and died about ten hours later. I know I told you she doesn’t die. And I’m sorry. Deep down…somehow， I didn’t think she would. But she did. Rachel’s ashes[骨灰] were scattered[分散] in a park behind her house. Apparently[顯然地]， she ran away from home once and tried to live there. It was this story her aunt told at the funeral[葬禮]. She was trying to become a squirrel. She thought she could turn into one just by being in the forest and wanting it really bad. I guess maybe that’s what Mr. McCarthy meant about someone’s life continuing to unfold[展開(kāi)]. It was weird to be learning something new about Rachel after she died. But somehow， it was reassuring[安心的] as well.
