15-year-old student photographer Madeline Morales has had special experiences different from others.She hasundergone chemotherapyandradiation.
Morales'sphotoswere on display in agallerytoday.These images reflect her journey while battling cancer.
“I tried to look at things with a lot of light;a lot of what draws me to positiveness;something that means love or happiness.I think withphotographyand having thatfaithof God has really helped me a lot.I learned to stay positive and motivated to keep fighting with this disease.”Morales said.
Morales is one of 23 students sharing their experiences with cancer through photos at this gallery.They are graduates of the Pablove foundation's Shutterbugs advanced photography class.These students could completely understand their own experiences and become a happy community.Being together has really made them feel comfortable andundertakewhat they've been through and where they're going with it.
The Pablove Shutterbugs program offers classes in eight cities across the United States.Proceedsfrom sales of these photographs will go towardpediatric cancerresearchgrants.
Bayu Lukman,a student photographer,was diagnosed withcancer when he was 10 years old.There are some Lukman's photos in this gallery.Most of his photo themes are focused on hope.
“This butterfly in a way knows it flies;it kind ofrepresentsthe feeling of optimism I'd say.And optimism is needed when we fight cancer and the effects of chemotherapy and radiation”,says Lukman.“You kind of get really depressed,and maybe you don't want to live anymore.But you need to stayoptimisticand push yourself through.”
With photography many young students gain an identity that is not defined by cancer.In addition tocancer-related experiences,they have many stories to tell.
“We want people to see what we see even if it's through the lens (鏡頭).Problems help me understand more about the struggles of cancer and give me a small chance to actually assist in the world a bit with photography.I could express my story and allow it to help other kids so that they can understand how to deal with cancer hopefully.”
They use photography as not only an engagingdistractionbut also a tool to document their struggle with cancer.They also share their stories with the world through photography.
