Qinghai Province Accelerates the Development of Lithium-ion Battery Industry Chain by Strengthening the Cooperation with BYD Auto and Other Giants

On June 27, China (Qinghai) Lithium Industry and Power Battery International Summit Forum 2018 was officially held in Xining, Qinghai. Wang Liming, vice-governor of Qinghai, noted at the forum that Qinghai boasts advantaged salt lake resources, the proved lithium resources reserve here accounts for over 1/3 of the global resources reserve and over 75% of the domestic reserve, which is crucial to support the sustainable and healthy development of the lithium industry in Qinghai. Qinghai has been vigorously attracting investment along the upstream and downstream industry chain. Paying high attention to the development of lithium industry, Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and People’s Government has proposed the goal of achieving annual capacity of approx. 120,000 ton lithium carbonate by 2020, in order to accelerate the transformation of Qinghai “from big to strong”. Moreover, Qinghai has introduced multiple plans and implementation opinions, including Qinghai Province 13th Five-year Plan for Development of New Material, laying a solid foundation for continuously supporting the development of the lithium industry.

According to Wang Liming, based on the disadvantage in production of battery diaphragm, electrolyte and new energy battery, Qinghai has connected the upstream and downstream industry chain, implemented “Scale Program”, vigorously attracted investment, strengthened the close cooperation with industry leaders as BYD and BAIC, supported the development of lithium battery and anode and cathode materials for new energy vehicles and the construction of matching production projects, in order to guarantee the rapid and stable growth of lithium battery industry in Qinghai and initially formed the complete industry chain covering extraction of lithium from salt lakes, anode and cathode materials, electrolyte, diaphragm, battery and new energy vehicles. Currently, as a strategic emerging industry, lithium battery has become the symbol of the green, low-carbon and circular development in Qinghai Province.
