Recently,Mintal Group commenced construction of a stainless steel base materials project with an annual output of 350,000 tons,marking that the Phase I base material project for the supply of basic raw materials for the Mintal’s stainless steel production enters into the implementation phase.This project is also known as Mintal’s high-carbon ferrochrome project phase III with an investment of 900 million yuan and occupying an area of 300 mu.A 700,000-ton travelling grate pellet production system and two 75-megavolt closed submerged arc furnaces will be built.It is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and willreach an annualhigh carbon ferrochrome (basic raw materialfor the production of stainless steel)output of 350,000 tons after the project is completed.After Mintal invested and established a plant in the Jiuyuan District,it began to implement a project to produce 1 million tons of high-carbon ferrochrome per year.The project is divided into three construction periods.The first phase of the project will produce 300,000 tons per year,the second phase 350,000 tons per year,and the third phase will produce 350,000 tons per year.The first and second phases have been put into production.Upon the completion of the third phase of the project,the annual production capacity of Mintal’s high-carbon ferrochrome will reach 1 million tons,occupying a domestic market share of 25%,making Mintal the largest high-carbon ferrochrome production enterprise in China.Meanwhile,itwillprovidesufficientraw material resources for a 1.6 million-ton rare earth modern ferritic stainless steel project to be implemented in the next stage,and lay a foundation for creating a“chromium ore-high carbon ferrochrome-stainless steel”industrial chain for the rare earth material industrial park.This is of great significance to improving the city’s steel industry structure and stimulating local economic development.
