Obscure scenes in China

To tell the truth, I dont like documentary films very much. As I can remember, I have seldom watched them, but last Tuesday, our advanced listening teacher recommended one to us —— that is Wild China, which has changed all my view of documentary films.

Asbeginning to watch the film, I was so fascinated by the beautiful scenery immediately that I totally forgot that the genre of this film. Even after watching, the well-bedded terraces, endless steppes and beautiful mountains were still in front of my eyes, being unable to be wiped out. Seeing directly from what was on in the video, there is no doubt that it is a completely outstanding documentary which reflect Chinese Human Geography.

Accept for the natural beauty, which astonished me most is that this video was made by BBC, who spent millions of money on this video for British to learn more about Chinese culture. From this aspect, I saw a nation which attaches a great importance to education and communication of national culture. However, I did not mean that China pays little attention to education and cultural intercommunication. China has done a lot to improve the quality of education and promote the communication with other countries. For an instance, China has built several Confusions Institutions to convey the theories of Confusion, who is considered the greatest of the ancient Chinese sages.

The third part of the documentary is to show what exists beyond the Great Wall, which named as Beyond the Great Wall.

The Great Wall is actually built as a series of fortifications made of stones, bricks, tamped earth, woods, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups. But after watching the fourth episode of the Wild China, named Beyond the Great Wall, I have learned something new about the northern China, where is hard to live on but it is astonished that there should be numerous colorful places, surprising creatures and amazing people.

There are grasslands of Inner Mongolia, the Gobi in Gansu Province, the dense forests in northeast China, and the western border. The famous “devil city” Dunhuang Jadine, the Wonderland Changbaishan Mountain, and the fruitful Turpan, as well as the unfrequented great desert are all lie beyond the Great Wall.

Besides, there are innumerable kinds of animals, such as wild boars, gerbils, Siberian tigers, reindeer. Here, nomadic tribes from a variety of ethnic groups still roam, but their traditional ways of life are changing as people move to modern cities. The last Hezhe fishermen still cast their nets beneath the thick ice of the frozen Black Dragon River. And the livestock of Mongolian horsemen share the pastures and wetlands with breeding demoiselle cranes and whooper swans. Kazakh nomads spend the summer in the Tian Shan where their livestock shares the scanty pasture with the last wild horses on earth.

It seems there is a certain relationship between creatures and local people. They have been living in harmony since thousands of yeas ago. But today, the harmonious relation is being broken. With the increasing global warming, the glaciers are melting, meaning fewer habitats for its animals. And gradually, there might be fewer residences for human beings as well. Though we have begun to take measures to prevent it from aggravating, we cannot stop it at the moment.

On the other hand, living under the modern fast pace, we have a preference for a metropolis for a vocation in that we can find a comfortable hotel or a satisfied restaurant effortlessly. Nevertheless, if we do want to relax ourselves or experience the beautiful natural landscape during the vocation, we might as well go beyond the Great Wall, gallop on a horse and appreciate the endless scenery. Only in this way can we make a good relaxation. In addition, tasting the a northern-frontier scene will contribute to learn more about the culture of the minorities and the flavor of local life.

While attracted by the beautiful scene and surprised by the harmonious relationships between human and nature beyond the Great Wall, I think we should focus more on the development of our country. But it does not mean the development at the cost of sacrifice on nature, instead, it is supposed to protect our environment and improve the environment while developing if possible. Despite the fact that China has vast territory and abundant resources, there will be a day that run out of all the exhausted resources. Besides, we have to admit the reality that there are so many species becoming extinct. Thus we should take initiative to prevent rare resources from exhaustion and protect the endangered animals from radical extinction. Only in this way can China be wildnot onlyin the past but also in the future. Only in this way are there chances that China become a powerful nation both in economic and natural environment.
