Try not to be a phubberubber
Today first I’d like to introduce a new word“phubber”——“低頭族”in Chinese.Iguesssomeofyou haveheard of this word a thousand times.Phubber comes from phubbing. "Phubbing"isa combination of"phone"and"snubbing"to describe thehabitofsnubbingsomeone in favorofamobilephone.
Are you one phubber? If your answer is yes, youmightget interested in the followingnews.
BBC(British BroadcastCorporation)recently did an interesting experiment named“a digital detox”at Tarporley High School. The students in this schoolwere asked togiveup social media tools like Facebook,Snapchat,Instagram,Twitter and video games for aweek.Luckily for the teenagers, they didn’t need tohand in theirphones.
Did the attendees finish their task and how did they feel during thenon-social-mediaweek?Here is the result.
Of the 1,000 pupilswho started the digital detox, around a quarterhave so faradmitted togivingup. And even the students who kept their words admit that though it is bad enough on school days,a weekend without socialmedia is the true challenge.Forexample,15-year-old Georgia isagirlwho isnot totally obsessed with socialmedia and has a normal life. But she stillworried what her friendswould think if she simply disappeared from socialmedia.Seeing thatshehad Snapchatmessages that she could not open had been really hard, but there has been an upside:"I've been looking at newspapers and magazines,"shesays,"and talking tomyparentsmore!"
Do you wanta try to see if you can finish this task too?I betyou can go through thatnotcomfortableweek withoutsocial media.
