But T-shirts are only part of a larger trend toward handicrafts(手工藝品).

“Instead of being passive(被動的)consumers,people in all sectors(行業(yè))are simultaneously(同時地)producing and consuming original products theymake themselves,”says a business consultancy.

Now,making handicrafts is becoming a hot trend among young city dwellers(居民).But the trend would have never taken offwithout the internet as it’s impossible to avoid do-it-yourself websites nowadays.Websites offering tips on knitting,sewing and other handicraftsmake it easier to get started and promote both exchanges of opinions and sales.

“Just about everyone makes things at home themselves if they can,”says Frank Michel,director of the DIY Academy in Cologne.Rising fuel(燃料)and rent costsmean people want to do more at home,boosting (增加)interest(利益)in making things themselves.

The do-it-yourself trend is all about individuality (個性) and self-realization(自我實現(xiàn))which people crave(渴望；需要) when confronted(對抗；面對)with markets bursting(擠滿)with interchangeable(可替換的)products.

Handcrafting will continue to develop,especially thanks to the internet.This iswhere regular people can use weblogs ormicroblogs to establish themselves as experts in new,ever more specialized topics.
