what除了用作代詞、形容詞、副詞外，還可用于某些習(xí)語中。這些習(xí)語通常有習(xí)慣譯法?，F(xiàn)舉例說明，僅供同學(xué)們學(xué)習(xí)時參考。

1. what ... for？ （為什么？）例如：

What did you do that for？ 你做那件事，是為了什么呢？

I told him what I was going to town for. 我告訴他我為什么進(jìn)城去。

2. What + be ... like？ （……是什么樣？）例如：

—Whats the weather like this morning？ 今天早上天氣怎么樣？

—It was fine. 晴天。

3. What do you think of ...？ （你覺得……怎么樣？）例如：

What do you think of the film you saw yesterday？ 你覺得你昨天看的那部電影怎么樣？

4. Whats the length長（width寬， height高， size尺寸） of ...？ （……有多長/寬/高/大？）例如：

Whats the length of the boat？ 這條船有多長？

Whats the height of that mountain？ 這座山有多高？

5. What about ...？ （……怎么樣？），后跟動名詞、代詞或名詞。例如：

What about taking a walk after supper？ 晚飯后出去散步如何？

He is going to swim. What about you？ 他打算去游泳，你呢？

What about the weather today？ 今天天氣怎樣？

6. What if ...？ （如果……怎么辦呢？）例如：

What if he cried？ 如果他哭怎么辦呢？

7. What else ...？ （還有什么？）例如：

What else could I say？ 我還能說什么呢？

What else can I do for you？ 我還能為你做什么呢？

8. Whats with ...？ （……怎么啦？）例如：

Mary looks worried. Whats with her？ 瑪利面有愁容，她怎么啦？
