ACT 1
Dad: Stop! Look at yourself!
Mum: Why can’t you walk like us, son? We don’t understand why you walk this way.
Yan Zi: Sorry, Mum and Dad. I will try my best.
Dad amp; Mum: We believe you can find your own way to walk.
Friend: What’s wrong, buddy? You don’t look happy.
Yan Zi: I have upset my parents because I can’t walk well.
Friend: I have just come back from a city called Handan. People there all walk in very elegant and cool ways! Maybe you can go and learn from them.
Yan Zi: Really? I want to go there!
Friend: Good luck!
ACT 2
Yan Zi: Wow! His walk is so cool.
Man: Can I help you there?
Yan Zi: Oh! Sorry, sir. I am just watching. Your walking style looks really cool!
Man: Thank you! I’m flattered!
Yan Zi: Could you teach me how to walk?
Man: Sure! Chin up, chest out, and look straight ahead! Now stride! Big steps! Left, right, left, right! Keep up the pace!
Yan Zi: Got it! This is really helpful! Thank you very much, sir!
Man: You’re welcome. It’s important to learn from others.
Yan Zi: She is pretty as a picture! Excuse me!
Woman: Yes?
Yan Zi: I really like your walking style. How do you walk so gracefully?
Woman: Oh, that’s easy! First, relax your shoulders.
Yan Zi: Oh, that does feel better.
Woman: Then, let your heel touch the ground first, and let your arms swing freely.
Yan Zi: This is amazing! Thank you, Madam!
Woman: Nothing is impossible to a willing heart. Good luck!
Yan Zi: Look at the little boy. He is full of energy! Hey, boy! Can you teach me how to walk?
Boy: You must be kidding! You don’t know how to walk?
Yan Zi: It’s hard to explain. But I really want to walk like you.
Boy: See? Hop on one foot first, and then the other.
Yan Zi: Am I doing it right?
Boy: You look so funny!
Yan Zi: Like this?
Boy: Yes, but relax your head as well!
Yan Zi: Got it! That is easy! Thanks, my friend!
ACT 3
Yan Zi: Practice makes perfect. Which leg should go first? Left? Right?
Passerby 1: What is he doing? Dancing?
Passerby 2: Maybe it’s kung fu?
Yan Zi: Hold the head up high ...
Passerby 1: He’s walking like a goose!
Passerby 2: He looks so silly!
Passerby 1: What are you doing, buddy?
Yan Zi: Oh! I’m learning to walk.
Passerby 2: Are you serious?
Yan Zi: Let me show you! Relax the shoulders! Relax the arms!
Passerby 1: What a waste of time!
Yan Zi: What’s wrong with these guys? Why do they laugh at me?
ACT 4
Grandma: What’s the matter, young man? Why are you crawling?
Yan Zi: I came here to learn how to walk. I learned so many different styles of walking that I got confused. I can’t walk now.
Grandma: I see. But everyone is unique. It will never work if you just copy others. You need to find your own style.
Yan Zi: But how?
Grandma: Think about which style works best for you.
Walk in a natural way.
Yan Zi: I get it. Thank you, Grandma!
