A talking sheepdog who loves math rounds up all of the sheep into a pen.
The sheep dog comes back and says, “Okay, all 400 sheep are accounted for.”
“But,” says the farmer, “Ive only got 360.”
The sheepdog replies, “I know, I rounded them up.”
一只會說話且喜歡數(shù)學(xué)的牧羊犬把所有的羊都關(guān)進了圍欄。
牧羊犬回來說:“好了,400只羊總算進去了?!?/p>
“但是,”農(nóng)夫說,“我只有360只羊啊。”
牧羊犬回答說:“我知道,我做了四舍五入?!?/p>
注:round up 表示“將……聚攏起來”,也含有“把……四舍五入”之意。
5. Why did Little Johnny cry louder?
為什么小約翰哭得更大聲了?
Little Johnny was crying one day, and his dad asked him why.
“Ive lost five cents,” sobbed Johnny.
“Dont worry,” said his dad kindly. “Heres five more for you.”
At this, Johnny cried louder than ever.
“Now what is it?” asked his dad.
“I wish Id said Id lost ten cents!”
有一天,小約翰哭了,他爸爸問他為什么哭。
“我丟了五美分?!奔s翰抽泣著說。
“別擔(dān)心,”他爸爸和藹地說,“我再給你五美分。”
聽到這里,約翰哭得比此前的聲音更大了。
“現(xiàn)在又怎么了?”他爸爸問道。
