The bronze drum is a type of ancient Chinese percussioninstruments( 打擊樂器) which has along history of over 2700 years. AndGuangxi has the largest number andwidest distribution( 分布). Afterwards,it gradually became a symbol ofpower and wealth for local people,like Ding( 鼎) in Shang and Zhoudynasties.
Patterns on the drum are mythical( 虛構(gòu)的), but now we have alreadyfigured out what some patterns mean. For example, frog pattern. Frogpattern is the most distinctive totem(圖騰 ) in Zhuang culture. The legendof Zhuang culture believes that the goddess of the frog is in charge of windand rain. In Guangxi, the frog is also called “maguai”( 螞拐). On the firstday of the first lunar month every year, it is the Maguai Festival. At dawn,people beat bronze drums and flock to the fields to find hibernating frogs,and then bring them back to their village. They believed that this activitycan bring good weather and many children tothe village.
