Edinburgh is the worlds festival city. There are twelve festivals all year, halfof which are celebrated during the months of July and August. Hundreds ofthousands of people visit the Scottish capital1 during the summer. Here are some ofthe events they can enjoy.

However, it can get very busy as thousands of tourists andlocal people fill the city streets to enjoy the shows.

The largest book festival in the world began in 1983 and takesplace every year in Charlotte Square Gardens in the centre ofEdinburgh. There are over 700 events for people who love books. Youcan meet many writers, talk to them, ask them to sign a book or listen tothem talk about their stories. Children can listen to stories and watchartists draw pictures of the stories.

More than 200,000 peoplebuy tickets to watch the show live and around 100 million people watch iton TV all over the world.
