The rose’s in her hand, the flavor in mine. Would you help a stranger who didn’t bring enough money to the shop?
A few weeks ago I went? to the post office with two kids. An old man was trying to pay his electricity bill in front of me. He was using a cane (手杖) and his hands and arms were shaking(顫抖). It seemed that he had a problem—he was 20 cents short of his total(全部)$118.70. Twenty cents!
The lady behind the counter (柜臺(tái)) had the old man in such a state, asking for just 20 cents. He was shaking and looked upset. But instead of letting the man go and paying the 20 cents herself, she told the man that if his bill wasn’t paid in full(全部), he would pay more next time for late fees.
Hearing this really upset me, so I walked up and asked the lady behind the counter to give all of his money back to him.I handed her my debit card (借記卡) and paid the bill for him.
The old man asked, “Why are you doing this?” as he began crying. I told him that it was the right thing to do. He thanked me over and over and smiled at my two kids on his way out of the post office.
The best part of all of this was that he walked out of the post office and straight to a supermarket, where he bought a large bag of snacks. As I was starting the engine (引擎), he walked up to our car and handed the bag to our two kids through the window.
Why were the old man’s hands and arms shaking?
A. Because his cane was shaking.
B. Because he is old and couldn’t help shaking.
C. Because he was very excited.
D. Because he got angry with the lady.
