“Ross, look at this!” I pointed to the computer screen. For the sweet puppy faces from dozens of photos, they were the cutest things Id ever seen. Gabby, our beloved dog, had passed away, and the house didnt feel right without a dog. Ross agreed. Where we disagreed was the type of dog.

Ross wanted a small low-maintenance one. He and I both had full-time jobs and Ross wasnt in the greatest health. A few years back, hed suffered a serious heart attack. I recently met our neighbors new goldendoodle (貴賓犬). It was the type Ross wanted.

A few months later, we took home our precious goldendoodle puppy. We named her Sunny. Sunny needed to be walked several times a day, but I didnt have the time for that. Rosss work hours were more flexible, so he agreed to walk her for 30 minutes a day. It was a big change for him, though he was unwilling. Hed never kicked his bad habit of staying at his desk until the end of the workday.

About a year after we got Sunny, it was time for Rosss follow-up physical examination. The doctor studied the screen carefully and smiled. “Why are you smiling?!” Ross asked. The doctor explained that after his artery (動(dòng)脈) was blocked, small vessels (血管) had grown in his heart, accelerating blood flow. “Its a rare phenomenon, which is more likely to occur in patients who join in regular, light exercise.” Ross and I looked at each other. Sunny saved Rosss life! Sunny is now five years old. Fully grown, she weighs about 20 pounds.

24. What did the author think of the dogs photos on the computer?

A. Ordinary. B. Attractive. C. Terrible. D. Colorful.

25. Why did Ross prefer a goldendoodle?

A. It was lovely. B. It was good for health.

C. It was easier to take care of. D. It cost less to raise.

26. What change did Sunny bring to Ross?

A. He stayed at his desk longer. B. He had more time to walk the dog.

C. He took more exercise in the gym. D. He spent more time walking outside.

27. What does the underlined word “accelerating” in Paragraph 4 mean?

A. Improving. B. Preventing. C. Controlling. D. Sensing.

Fish cats are a kind of cats that love water and love to fish. They are like tigers and lions, only much smaller, around twice the size of our average pet cats. They live in wetlands of South Asia and mangrove (紅樹(shù)林) forests of South and Southeast Asia. Like many endangered species, fish cats were in danger of dying out more than twenty years ago, mainly because of the great international need for fish food and the peoples cutting of the mangroves at an extremely fast speed.

Mangroves of Southeast Asia are home to a great many fantastic species, like fish cats, turtles, shorebirds and others. Mangroves can protect soil, and they can be the first line of protection between storms, tsunamis and the millions of people who live next to them. The fact is that mangroves can store almost five to ten times more CO2 than other forests. So protecting mangroves may well be like protecting five to ten times more of other forests.

Ten years ago, in South India, many people came together to change the future of their home. In less than 10 years, with international support, the state forest departments and the local people worked together to restore over 20,000 acres of unproductive fish and shrimp (蝦) farms back into mangroves. Now experts are working with them in helping study and protecting the mangroves as well as the species living in them. Fish and shrimp farmers are now willing to work with experts to test the harvest of nature protection like fishes, turtles and other species in mangroves. The local farmers are encouraged to protect and plant mangroves where they have been lost. A win-win-win for fish cats, local people and the global ecosystem is being built.

28. What made the fish cats endangered?

A. Natural enemies and environment pollution. B. Less food and overcutting of mangroves.

C. Cutting of mangroves and lack of water. D. Being too large and needing too much food.

29. Why are mangroves so important?

A. They can prevent extreme weather. B. They are perfect home to all species.

C. They can take in CO2 effectively. D. They help plants grow better on the soil.

30. What is the last paragraph mainly about?

A. Changes of South India in 10 years. B. Ways of turning farms into forests.

C. Efforts to protect the mangroves. D. Work in protecting shrimps.

31. What can be the best title for the text?

A. Fish Cats and Mangroves Protection B. The Importance of Mangroves

C. Ways to Protect Fish Cats D. Man and Nature

What is talent? Are you born with it? Or does it seem to develop over time? Before I start, Id like to say that one thing everyone agrees on is that the most skilled musicians have worked hard to get there.

While its true that a few of us had enough “talent” to avoid extra practice to do just as well as those who did, those who worked hard easily beat us. It is, in fact, very likely that if some of us “talented ones” had actually been practicing and improving our skill, we would have achieved a whole different level.

Another aspect of talent seems to be heart and passion (酷愛(ài)). The people I see who are the most talented musicians are crazy about music. They eat, breathe, and live with music and they make an extraordinary effort to make it part of their lives. As Remus Badea said, desire for the musician-to-be is significant for them to be successful. This desire is easily found in those considered to be talented. When you want and love something so bad, it drives you and your entire character can be shaped around it. Such determined passion seems to produce incredible skill and talent.

The third aspect of talent is having talent around you. When surrounded by talented musicians, it only seems natural that you start to catch up to their level. Take a look at almost any group of musicians in history. The more talented people in the group the more talented the group is as a whole. A great example of this is the relationship between audio producer (音樂(lè)制作人) and artist. The artist turns up to the studio with their song, and as they work through recording it, the audio producer will often suggest various changes to the song to make it better.

32. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?

A. Pride goes before a fall. B. Its never too old to learn.

C. Practice contributes to talent. D. Talent determines achievements.

33. What is the key to success according to Remus Badea?

A. Passion. B. Character. C. Skill. D. Effort.

34. Why is the example mentioned in the last paragraph?

A. To prove talents need team spirit. B. To introduce what real talents are.

C. To explain how a song is recorded. D. To show the benefits of being with talents.

35. What might the author probably agree with?

A. Music has no limits. B. Music favors the talented.

C. Musicians are born with talent. D. Musicians are created, not born.
