The Six Banyan Temple is an established temple located on Liurong Road witha history as long as 1400 years. It is a wonderful tourist destination for those who areinterested in Chinese culture and history.
Under the sunshine of the clear day,the lofty( 巍峨的)pagoda( 佛塔)becomes golden. When you first stepinto the Six Banyan Temple, you will besurprised at the peaceful and solemn(莊嚴(yán)的)atmosphere there. The rhythmicsound of the wooden fish reverberates( 回響)in the air. Immersing in thecharming sound of wooden fish and birdssinging, you will feel that all the tirednessis carried away.
Dating from 537 AD, many templeswere built. The Six Banyan Temple wasone in Guangzhou, originally namedBao Zhuangyan Temple. The temple was ruined by a fire in the Song Dynasty and wasrebuilt as the Six Banyan Temple.
Standing at the front door of the pagoda, you will see two characters of “LiuRong”. The calligraphy( 書(shū)法)was written by Su Dongpo, who visited the templein 1100 and was asked to leave a piece of his calligraphy there. Deeply impressedby the six banyan trees in the temple, he wrote these two characters. Looking at thecalligraphy while standing under the banyan trees, you will feel like Su Dongpo wasstanding in front of you. Isn’t it poetic?
