The book, Shaanxi: A Cradle of Chinese Civilization, the first in the series, is published in Chinese and English. Dr. Zhai Bo, who once served as the chief editor of China Education News and the secretary of the Party Committee and president of the Chinese Education Press Agency, is the chief editor of this book. He said that Shaanxi is one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese nation and Chinese culture. Many spiritual signs of Chinese civilization converge here. Thirteen dynasties, including Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang, have successively established their capitals here. For thousands of years, countless wonderful stories have been staged in this magical land. The selection of Shaanxi as the starting point of the “Chinese Stories” Series is of symbolic significance.
The book selects 50 Shaanxi stories, which span across past and present, including the Terracotta Warriors, the Dayan Pagoda and other stories that show Shaanxi’s long history and humanity, as well as the beautiful Xi’an, China Railway Express and other stories that reflect Shaanxi’s contemporary developmental achievements. In addition, all stories in the book are dubbed by professional Chinese and foreign announcers who are native English speakers. Readers can scan the code to obtain audio resources.
The “German Stories on Tour” event was held at the Hangzhou Boku Super Bookstore on Wener Road. The book fair was jointly organized by Hangzhou Boku Super Bookstore, Frankfurt Book Fair and German Book Information Center. The activities include the display of original German books, the German-Chinese translation of books, the Chinese-German translation of books exhibition and sales, as well as a number of cultural lectures and salons, bringing readers a grand event of Sino-German cultural exchange.
Germany has a long history and culture, known as “the country of poets and philosophers,” and many famous writers were from Germany, such as Kant, Marx, Nietzsche, Hegel, Goethe, Schiller, Bach, Beethoven, etc. From literary classics spanning a long time, to philosophical classics gathering brightness, to children’s and youth books that are either interesting, thrilling, or full of life wisdom, many German books accompany our reading time, giving people ideological enlightenment and spiritual nourishment.
Due to the limited translation resources, a large number of high-quality German books rarely have the opportunity to be touched and read by domestic readers. On this exhibition tour, Hangzhou readers finally have a chance to get close contact with precious German original books.
The exhibition area is located in the central hall of the first floor of the Hangzhou Boku Super Bookstore on Wener Road. The exhibition space is divided into four parts, namely the Germany best book exhibition area, the Chinese-German translation book exhibition area, the German-selected book recommendation area, and the German high-quality cultural products area.
Among them, the “best book exhibition area” is the most characteristic feature of this book exhibition, covering the award-winning works of the “German Best Book Award” from 2018 to 2021, involving picture and children, lifestyle and design, literature and art, and other categories of books.
In addition, during the book exhibition, the Hangzhou Boku Super Bookstore at Wener Road holds relevant Sino-German cultural exchange lectures every weekend. A number of experts and scholars, Sino-German cultural lovers, translators and editors will study and share with readers, and lead them to understand German and German culture from more perspectives.
