On October 11, 2022, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Germany diplomatic relations.
Xi Jinping pointed out that over the past 50 years, China and Germany have steadily advanced bilateral relations in the spirit of mutual respect, mutual benefit, and win-win results, and worked hard to make positive contributions to world peace and development, writing a chapter of joint progress and mutual success. Noting the great importance he attached to the development of China-Germany relations, Xi expressed readiness to work with President Steinmeier in taking the opportunity of the 50th anniversary to carry forward bilateral relations on the basis of past achievements and to elevate the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership to a higher level to the benefit of the two countries and peoples.
Steinmeier said that the past 50 years have seen deep-going development of Germany-China relations in multiple fields, which has enhanced bilateral exchanges and improved the wellbeing of the two peoples. China is the largest trading partner of Germany, and the economic and trade cooperation between Germany and China serves the interests of both sides. He wished for bilateral cooperation to continue to grow and flourish.
On September 24, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Csaba K r?si on the sidelines of the UNGA session in New York.
Wang Yi said that the world today is far from being peaceful. President Xi Jinping has put forward the Global Security Initiative, and advocates a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security, providing China’s input to reducing the peace deficit and addressing security challenges. President Xi has also put forward the Global Development Initiative (GDI), making China’s contributions to the concentrated effort to promote development and achieve the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. China stands ready to step up coordination with the UN to mobilize more resources and form greater synergy.
Wang Yi stressed that sustainable development is the common cause of humanity. Briefing K r?si on the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of the GDI China chaired several days before, Wang noted that China would take another seven measures to implement the GDI, and had presented global sustainable development data products to the UN. Wang expressed China’s readiness to maintain communication with the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly on green development and global water resources protection, and China’s support for the effort to hold a successful 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
K r?si said that as an advocate of multilateralism and an important cooperation partner of the UN, China has played a key role in the affairs of the UN General Assembly. He noted that the important initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping have provided visions and solutions for building consensus and effectively responding to current challenges. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan in Astana on October 13.
Wang Qishan conveyed President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings and best wishes to Tokayev. Recalling President Xi’s successful visit to Kazakhstan the previous month, Wang noted that the common understanding reached between the two heads of state to build a China-Kazakhstan community with a shared future defined by lasting friendship, a high degree of mutual trust, and sharing weal and woe has charted the course for the development of China-Kazakhstan relations under the new circumstances. China is ready to work with Kazakhstan to implement the common understanding reached between the two heads of state, continue to firmly support each other’s core interests, share development opportunities, and effectively safeguard their common strategic security and development interests
Wang Qishan stressed that the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be a gathering of great significance held at a critical moment as China embarks on a new journey to build a modern socialist country in all respects. This Congress aims to fully implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation by following a Chinese path to modernization, and set out goals and tasks for China to achieve during the next five years and beyond.
Tokayev asked Wang Qishan to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping, and expressed high appreciation of China’s important role in CICA cooperation. He noted that developing relations with China has always been an important diplomatic priority of Kazakhstan. President Xi Jinping’s historic visit has become a new milestone in the development of bilateral relations. Kazakhstan will firmly support the Belt and Road Initiative, and work with China to continuously consolidate the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

On the very same day, Wang Qishan attended and addressed the Sixth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
He said that CICA needs to strengthen solidarity and coordination, properly tackle challenges, and endeavor to build an Asian community with a shared future. It needs to uphold mutual respect and mutual trust, implement the Global Security Initiative, pursue common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and maintain peace and stability in Asia. It needs to uphold mutual benefit, actively implement the Global Development Initiative, speed up the realization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and promote the development and prosperity of all Asian countries. It needs to uphold mutual learning, rise above differences in ideology and social system, and advocate harmonious coexistence among Asian civilizations. It needs to uphold fairness and justice, firmly support each other in following a development path suited to the national conditions of respective countries, uphold the UN-centered international system, champion true multilateralism, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Asian countries.
