Liberty Village has been designed to meet the particularly sensitive needs of its target population of homeless veterans, many of whom have received severe mental and physical trauma.
This design not only provides handicap access at a level exceeding State and Federal standards, but seeks to create an environment that is secure, encourages interaction, and inspires mobility. The blocklike, squat massing of the building is meant to symbolize stability and permanence for its residents, however, this staid expression is counterbalanced by an undulating, motional stream of balconies across its face, which both recognizes the unique background of residents and provides inspiration for their transition to a new life of opportunities.
The permanent supportive housing community consists of 60 units in Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood.Forty-eight of the development's units are designated for formerly homeless veterans and their families. No less than 25% of units are provided to residents earning 33% or less of the AMI,with the remainder provided to households earning 60% or less of the AMI.
