Nina was very ill. She had to spend all day in bed. Other children were not allowed to come near her. She felt sad and blue. She had nothing to do but look out of the window.
One day Nina saw a strange thing at her window. It was a chick eating a sandwich. The chick said, “Good afternoon!” and left.
Nina was very surprised. “What was that?” she thought.
Soon she saw a monkey. It was blowing up a balloon. Nina burst out laughing.
And then Nina saw more and more strange characters at her window: A pig singing funny songs. A dog with a pair of glasses giving a talk show. A fat elephant doing a street dance. Nina couldn’t stop laughing. She didn’t feel sad or blue anymore.
After a week, Nina got better. She was able to go back to school again. She told her best friend Doris all the strange things she saw in the window. Suddenly, she saw something sticking out of Doris’s schoolbag. Nina asked what it was again and again. Doris had to show her what was in the bag.
