Your body is like a little furnace3. It puts out heat all the time. It comes from your body doing the work that keeps you alive4. When it puts out a lot more or a lot less heat than usual, it is trying to tell you theres a problem.
Not everyones “normal” body temperature is the same. Yours could be a whole degree different than someone elses.
A German doctor in the 19th century set the standard5 at 98.6 F, but more recent6 studies say the baseline7 for most people is closer to 98.2 F.
For an adult8, body temperature can be anywhere from 97 F to 99 F. Babies and children have a little higher range9: 97.9 F to 100.4 F.
Your temperature doesnt stay same all day, and it will be different in your lifetime, too. Some things that make your temperature move around during the day include10:
●How active you are
●What time of day it is
●Your age
●Your sex
●What youve eaten or drunk
●(If youre a woman) where you are in your menstrual cycle11
