Every year on 15th October, over 200 million people around the world take part in Global Handwashing Day. But why do we have a day for something we do all the time? Well, research shows that not enough people often wash their hands with soap. Experts believe that this leads to the deaths of millions of people every year.
Sidibe, a public health expert says soap is the most beautiful invention in public health. Washing your hands with soap can have a huge influence on reducing (減少) the spread of diseases(疾?。? Handwashing with soap prevents babies from getting ill and keeps children healthy and in school.
However, washing hands with soap does not happen as often as you might think. This is partly because there arent enough resources (資源) in poorer countries, but its also because for many people, handwashing is simply not part of their everyday life. Its not easy to get people to change habits they learned in early childhood—but this is what Global Handwashing Day wants to do.
In 2008, the Indian cricket team joined around 100 million Indian schoolchildren in washing their hands to promote (促進(jìn)) the first ever Global Handwashing Day. Every year since then, many different events have been held around the world. In 2014. Global Handwashing Day was used in the fight against Ebola, a very serious disease, with events held in affected (受感染的) African countries.
Today, local and national leaders continue to use the day to spread the message about the importance of clean hands. The hope is that handwashing becomes a necessary part of peoples lives and improves the health of millions around the world.

Building Your Business, Building Your People
What an exciting thing to do—developing a successful business! Im reminded every day of some important ideas for progress. Here are some ideas to keep in mind that can make a meaningful difference in a team:
If I want my team to go and grow with me, I need to find out what excites them. What do they need in their work environment to improve their mental well-being? What are their fears and concerns, and how can I help them manage these fears and concerns? What are their values and goals?
During my early years in management, I realized the great power of expectations. As I found, people largely lived up to my expectation of them. So I learned that if I want to build my business through my people, I have to build their own belief in their ability to achieve. This belief must be educated. If I want them to achieve more, I must help them build their trust in themselves first.
Whenever I speak and give advice to people, they tell me they dont get enough recognition(認(rèn)可). Sad, isnt it? But how much recognition do they give to others? In fact, recognition could be developed by praising and appreciating each other in a team. Encourage everyone in your team to recognize achievements in others. Teach your team to ask for the opinions of others if theyre not receiving recognition.
We have created our life just the way we choose to have it, or at least the way weve settled for it. Those who have been told they are creative will probably use their creativity bravely. Others who havent had their creativity encouraged will mostly believe they are uncreative. I suggest you encourage your people to be creative and brave in trying out new ideas.

Alexis, 17, sat quietly in the passenger seat of her dads car. She looked out of the car window, enjoying the view of wild animals. As the car moved closer a deer, Alexis realized it was attacking (襲擊) a woman. Sue, a 44-year-old mother, had been out for her morning run. The deer had appeared from the tall corn and began following her. Having lived in the countryside for years, Sue knew that most deer got afraid by humans. But this deer moved closer, even when she threw several small stones at it. Sue knew she was in trouble. She went to pick up a stick to protect herself, but the deer charged. Within seconds, the deer had pushed her off the road with its antlers (鹿角).
Alexis and her father stopped, and looked into the womans scared eyes, and before her father had even stopped the car, the teenager jumped quickly out of the car and ran toward the deer. She kicked the deer hard to get its attention so that it would leave the woman. However, the deer was not afraid at all. Then her father pushed the deer away from the woman.
Alexis helped Sue into the car, and then used a piece of cloth on Sues injured leg. “Were going to get you to a hospital,” Alexis said. Then she heard her father shout loudly. He had been knocked to the ground, his right leg seriously cut by the deer. Alexis took hold of a hammer (錘子) from the car and ran to her father. She beat the deers head and neck with all her strength. At last, the deer ran away.
Alexis got in the drivers seat and drove toward the nearest hospital. After Sue was treated, she thanked them with tears. “You expect a teenage girl to get on the phone and call for help,” she said, “not to beat up a deer.” Alexis father also thanked his daughter. And he said the same idea as Sues.
46. When did Sue realize she was in trouble?
47. What does the underlined word “charged” mean?
48. When did Alexis help Sue get into the car?
