●Nearly 30 climbers were heading up the worlds highest peak1 during the global pandemic2
A group of climbers from China had their expedition3 up Everest while the peak remains closed to foreign climbers because of coronavirus4.
Everest sits on the border of China and Nepal and can be climbed from both sides. China closed its side to foreign climbers while Nepal has cancelled5 all expeditions in response to coronavirus.
Many expedition operators from around the world had to cancel their climbing plans for this spring and summer due to the pandemic.

●Trekking6 to Everest in his home
With coronavirus stopping expeditions to Everest, a group of UK climbers had completed a virtual7 expedition. Going up and down their own up stairs, even up ladders, the team completed the 5,364 metres of vertical8 climb needed. It took the group 5 days.
They said the next weeks challenge was to trek the remaining 3,484 metres to the summit of Everest.
