Once upon a time, there was a beautiful garden. It belonged to a Giant, but the Giant hadn't been at home for a long time. Children loved playing in the garden, because the flowers there were beautiful, and the birds there sang moving songs.
One day, the Giant came back. He was angry that so many children were in his garden. He told them all to go away! Then, to make sure that the children could not come back, the Giant built a massive wall around his garden; and put up a sign that said: Trespassers will be prosecuted. What a selfish Giant!
The children were all sad. The flowers and the birds were sad, too. They missed the children. So the flowers did not grow in the Giant's garden anymore, and the birds flew away and did not sing in the Giant's garden anymore. From then on, it was winter all year long in the Giant's garden.
The snow loved his garden, and covered all of the grass. As did the frost, who sprinkled himself all over the trees. Also the roaring wind, who blew constantly at his wall. But the Giant didn't want the snow, the frost, or the wind. He missed the flowers and the birds. He was very sad, and wished that he hadn't been so selfish.
One day, as the Giant was pondering his gloom, he heard the sound of a bird singing. He hadn't heard such a lovely song for such a long time! The Giant looked out of his window, and with amazement and joy, found that a part of the wall had been blown down by the wind and the children were running into his garden. And with them, so returned the flowers and the birds.
The children were planting flowers on the ground, and the flowers brought the birds. The Giant leapt out of the window to help them. He was selfish no more! He then tore down his wall, ripped up his sign, and told the children that they could play in his garden forever. The children all cheered, and the Giant smiled to himself.
