2.List the words or expressions with the meaning similar to “find”.
One morning,I found myself focusing on the many different types of birdsforagingfor food.As Iwatched,I couldn't help but think of my own spiritual life.
The smallest birds were the quicksandpipersrunning along theshoreline. They appeared to almost be playing games with the waves, running after and being run after as they dashed here and there in search of food.Getting fed seemed much more of a game than a serious task.
Next were thehatefulseagulls. They seemed to me the rulers of the shore. They spent their time tricking the smaller birds—and even us,if we had something they thought they wanted.I also noticed they were seldom satisfied. It wasn't unusual to see one of them drop a piece of food if they thought they had a chance for something better.
The largest of all the winged creatures I observed were thepelicans. These royal birds tended to stay farther from shore, searching out a more energetic fish under the sea.I was interested in their varied flight paths. They stayed close to the water at times, the tips of their wings just touching the tops of the waves. Then, when they found a school of fish, they'd shoot up into the air and back down in a steep dive that took them completely under the water.
I couldn't help but notice that the largest and strongest birds were the ones willing to dive deep to get fed.The mostdelicatewere those that waited for whatevertidbitwas within reach. The bullies tried to appropriate whatever they wanted. They were never satisfied and always quarreling.
How like us they all were.I hate to admit how I could see myself in every group.I've lived(or tried to live)like those small sandpipers, feeling the joy of the game of living.I've also run after many kinds of unhealthy ideas, often being so comfortable on following the crowd that I dropped something valuable so I could have something that turned out to have no value at all.But the past few years,as I've lived with a son at war,I've learned to spend time in diving in and going deep. There I've found the abundance of what I need to live in strength and in health.

詞匯 近義表達 意義 舉例f i n d f o r a g e f o r 搜查 O n e g r o u p l e f t t h e c a m p t o f o r a g e f o r f i r e w o o d. i n s e a r c h o f H e i s i n s e a r c h o f a b e t t e r n e w l i f e. s e a r c h o u t 查出;探出H e w e n t t h r o u g h d r a w e r a f t e r d r a w e r a n d e v e n t u a l l y s e a r c h e d o u t a d u s t y p o r t f o l i o.
1.As I watched,I couldn't help but think of my own spiritual life.
I couldn't help but notice that the largest and strongest birds were the ones willing to dive deep to get fed.
句中的can't help but do sth是一個固定結(jié)構(gòu),意為“不由得做某事;只能做某事”。
2.They stayed close to the water at times, the tips of their wings just touching the tops of the waves.
句中的the tips of their wings just touching the tops of the waves是一個獨立主格結(jié)構(gòu)。
