Recently the API CK-4 grade diesel engine oil, which was independently developed by the SINOPEC Research Institute of Petroleum Processing (RIPP), has successfully passed the nine engine tests specified in the relevant Specifications to bridge the engine oil quality gap between the domestic and international technology.
With the extension of oil condemning limit and the increasingly stringent environmental protection and energy conservation requirements, diesel engines, which are equipped with EGR, SCR, DPF, and other exhaust gas post-treatment devices, have put forward a very harsh demand for the physico-chemical property and service performance of engine oils. In December 2016,API had promugated the latest quality specification for CK-4 diesel engine oil. In comparison with the previousgeneration diesel engine oil CJ-4, the specification for diesel engine oil CK-4 stipulates the adoption of brandnew Mack T-13 and COAT engine tests in a bid to provide the engine lubricants with excellent anti-oxidation and anti-air-entrainment performance, which has increased the difficulty in developing the said engine oil formulation.
Over the past three years the R&D team of RIPP through enhancing the basic research work aimed at independent innovation efforts has creatively solved a lot of tough issues related with the development of oil formulations, leading to an successful completion of the R&D study on the diesel engine oil CK-4, which can be applied in the diesel engined vehicles meeting the national VI emission standard. The domestic diesel engine oil CK-4 is characteristic of excellent anti-oxidation, good dispersion, good anti-wear and satisfactory detergency performance. The successful development of this diesel engine oil has filled in the gaps for independently working out high-grade engine oil CK-4, making SINOPEC capable of shifting from the follower's position to the position of the neck-in-neck runner in the area of engine oil formulations to significantly prop up the international competitiveness of SINOPEC in the field of creating engine oil formulations.
