Currently the construction of a 130 m3/h commercial test project for treating PTA related wastewater in a biofluidized bed has been commenced at the SINOPEC Shanghai Petrochemical Company (SPC). This is the first case of adopting the bio-fluidized bed technology to treat PTA related wastewater inside the Sinopec system in order to significantly remove COD in wastewater and increase the wastewater treating capacity, which can have remarkable R&D and production significance.

This project is to be jointly developed and studied by the Environmental Water Affairs Department of SPC, the SINOPEC Luoyang Technical R&D Center, and the SINOPEC Luoyang Engineering Company, Ltd. At present, the front end engineering design has been completed to ensure the commissioning of this project by the year end.

The 130 m3/h commercial test project for treating PTA related wastewater is a novel reactor combining the activated sludge method with the biofilm method. It is told that before the commencement of this project SPC has conducted the sideline tests in a 15 t/h bio-fluidized bed for treating the EG wastewater, resulting in good consequences.

This project carries a technical development nature based on the two successful pilot scale tests. This project through adopting the high-efficiency reactors coupled with the dominating bacterial strains is characteristic of low energy consumption, less plot area, operation in closed space, and low waste sludge yield.
