It is not growing like a tree
In bulk doth make man better be;

A lily of a day

五月之百合,
綻放一日,便有萬(wàn)種風(fēng)情;
縱然是夜凋零,
卻是光華的落英;
于細(xì)微處領(lǐng)略美麗,
于殘缺處完滿生命。
本杰明·瓊森(1572-1637),英國(guó)文藝復(fù)興時(shí)期劇作家、詩(shī)人和演員,與莎士比亞處于同一時(shí)代。其最知名的戲劇作品為《福爾蓬奈》(Volpone)、《煉金士》(The Alchemist)和《巴塞洛繆集市》(Bartholomew Fair)。這首詩(shī)很容易讓我們想起1757年出生的英國(guó)詩(shī)人威廉·布萊克的著名長(zhǎng)詩(shī)《天真的預(yù)言》(Auguries of Innocence)頭四句:“To see a world in a grain of sand/and a heaven in a wild flower/hold infinity in the palm of your hand/and eternity in an hour”。梁宗岱先生將這四句譯為:“一沙一世界,一花一天堂。雙手握無(wú)限,剎那是永恒?!钡览碚f(shuō)來(lái)淺顯易懂,不復(fù)贅言。但就是這樣一個(gè)淺顯的道理,讓身處不同時(shí)代的兩位詩(shī)人通過(guò)詩(shī)作共同表達(dá)。不知詩(shī)人是否也有這樣的感慨:世代繁衍的人類中,有幾人真正領(lǐng)悟了這層含義?
