The novel is about when a 15-year-old girl Dylan leaves her Scottish home to visit an estranged7 father she hardly knows， she is involved in a train crash. Emerging onto a remote hillside， she is met by a strange but handsome teenage boy called Tristan， who seems to be waiting for her. He is no ordinary teenage boy， but her “ferryman” sent to accompany her across the wasteland， the divide between life and the after-life. So begins a journey where Dylan will learn about herself and what she is capable of.
