I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earths sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

喬伊斯·基爾默(1886—1918),美國詩人、新聞?dòng)浾吆驮u(píng)論家。基爾默絕大部分的詩歌都不被大眾熟知,而發(fā)表于1913年的《詠樹》卻是一首在美國知名度極高的抒情詩。
