There are many different types（種類） of traditional（傳統(tǒng)的） operas（歌?。?in China. Peking Opera（Beijing Opera） is the most famous one.

Peking Opera is a comprehensive（綜合的） performing art（表演藝術(shù)）. It combines（結(jié)合） singing，dialogue（對(duì)話），monologue（獨(dú)白），martial arts（武術(shù)），acrobatics（雜技） and mime（啞?。?together.

There are five types of main roles（主要角色） in Peking Opera.

Roles are classified（分類） by the age and personality（性格） of the characters（人物）. Facial makeup（臉譜） is very important in Peking Opera. It shows the roles’ personality by using（通過使用） different colors. The basic（基本的） colors used in modern（現(xiàn)代的） Peking Opera painted faces are red，purple，black，white，blue，green，yellow，pink，gray，gold and silver.

In Peking Opera，actors must follow（遵循） many acting rules（表演規(guī)則） on stage（舞臺(tái)），such as how to sit down，take a step（邁步），open a door，ride a horse，row（劃） a boat.
